Trying to get excited about Foos

Wouldn't say I'm a massive fan, but I like them, and I know they're going to put on a superb show. It's one of my must-sees in all honesty. I don't think there'll be many disappointed. Grohl is a legend.

I'm not a massive fan but have already decided I'm going to see them unless there is a must see somewhere else and at this point, for me, there isn't. I put them down as one of the bands you must see live given the opportunity.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who should like them but doesn't. They're just so samey, on record and live. If they were going to play a normal 90 minute set I'd probably go but there's no way I'm standing through 2.5 - 3 hours of mediocre rock songs that all sound the same. That's a criminal waste of time when there's so many other things to see at Glasto.

Could  few people in the know re Foo's maybe post some of thier better toons, I will more than likely be watching them with the group I am going with but not really my cup of tea kind of just going along to see Dave, loved Nirvana etc etc.

A few songs aside, that's essentially a greatest hits set from them and a good place to start if you're looking to get in to them.

Part of the problem with Foos as a headliner is that most of us (that are interested) went through the whole hype cycle two years ago. I'll probably watch them and probably enjoy them, but it's a real struggle getting any more excited than that. It's hard to get pumped for a headliner that has primarily been booked to make amends for pulling out, with no new material to play and no real reason to be touring other than the fact they just are. And they haven't released a remotely good record in 10 years (and that's being diplomatic IMO).

I had to give up tickets to Reading 12, where they were an act I was really looking forward to and I watched the set on the telly thinking it was great, but for some reason I have little enthusiasm this year and am hoping for a better option that night.

I'd expect a guest or 2 as well as some enthusiastic cover versions.

"Massive gaps between the big ones"? They've got loads of big songs! Learn to Fly, Breakout, Monkey Wrench, Pretender, My Hero, Times Like These, Walk, Everlong, Big Me, This is a Call and the ridiculous "high"light of their set that is 'Best of You' (I hate it, everyone else bellows it). And they put on a show, albeit it's a bit more predictable if you've seen them enough times. 

They'll be good and the time will fly by. Seriously, I've never seen them play less than three hours and the only thing that bores me is Dave's banter, but that's only because it's the same every time and the Mrs has made me watch them six times.

Are they awesome live? Or do they play their studio stuff differently on the big stage....cos as much as I try to get into them, they just sound hackneyed and unoriginal. 

I love Grohl on the drums but his guitar playing seems pedestrian and all the songs I've been listening to seem pretty much the same.

So, while not meaning to offend hardcore Foo fans, I just want a few insights into my Saturday night entertainment - are they worth investing that prime spot to?

 

Thing is if you not sure at the moment, I would suggest watch a few different live sets to see if worth investigating your time but if not a big fan and want to go somewhere else then do the somewhere else rather than worry about FOMO

Personally I can't wait as know their songs, seen them loads of times and even have a figging alien that looks like Grohl to wave in the air 

I would say if you did go then yeah get involved near the front as you probably get swept up by lunatic fans like myself singing badly and jumping around like a loon enjoying their set

Yeah my biggest wish of their set is that they stick to their own songs - I mean, they've got a shitload. That covers section may be what leads me to venture elsewhere.

And for heaven's sake, stop giving Taylor Hawkins his own section! Cold Day in the Sun should have been dropped as soon as they stopped touring In Your Honor.

Should have been dropped before it was written. (EDIT: beaten to it).

The problem I have is that they haven't released any music I want to see since the last time I seen them, which was quite some time ago. However I'm sure I'll go and am sure it will be fairly good.

Yep if their last release was great and we were gonna hear all those exciting songs live for the first time it'd be something else, but Sonic Highways sucked, and the less they play of it the better - the one bonus point of their set being delayed by two years is that the amount of songs played from it will inevitably be reduced (to hopefully just one).

Foos are on my see-if-there's-no-one-else-I-want-to-see-more list, I think they'll be really good but I'm certainly not a superfan and I'll probably only know their hits.

My advice would be, don't go because you think you should, but if you think you'll enjoy them then do

Agreed. A set made up of mainly their first 3.5 albums (One by One had a few good songs) followed by the the lead single from each of the other albums would be pretty decent.

Very good live act. For those who can at least stand their music, I'd recommend going to see them at least once.

 

I've seen them thrice (last time was an intimate show to be fair) so I don't feel like I need to see them again. I'm really not fussed about seeing Congregation live. The options on Saturday are a bit thin, however. Praying for a good JP headliner, otherwise I'll probably settle for Alt-J.

You can pretty much guarantee there'll be secret surprise special guests so if that's your thing then it's worth checking out. Personally, depending on how the clashes work out, I'll probably see either the start or the end, but I doubt I'll be stood there for the full 2.5 hours.
