2019 Headliners

Well with the quote about 2 or 3 acts who've have played before, it's something he always says and I think I remember that it wasn't even specifically about headliners, just the bigger acts on the lineup, in which case you've already got Kylie, and he could even have potentially been including subs or whatever in that.

And on the "couple of blokes" thing it definitely sounded to me like she was saying all the headliners were male, otherwise it doesn't really make any sense to specify the male acts. So I think the remaining headliners will both be males.

That would would imply 3 solo male headliners? I cant see that personally. I'm taking it as 2 blokes being Stormzy + another solo bloke... they a band or group or female for 3rd act.

The Michael quote can't be true, assuming The Cure are nailed on. Could apply to the third headliner potentially (The Strokes?..) but not the other 2. Also IF Macca was on the cards for third slot, that quote couldn't be any further from the truth.

I don't think the blokes thing can be taken literally as 3 solo performers, she probably just meant it's a male trio; be that a combination of bands or bands & a solo act

ignore that, its likely to be rubbish. Michael makes stuff up when it's a quote like that.

Is Michael involved at all with that stuff still? Seems more about the logistics nowadays.

I recall reading that Nick does a lot of the heavy lifting as far as booking acts and pulling in major headliners, but people only beg Emily or ‘The Eavii’ (hate that term) to book their faves. :P

Maybe, I just thought she means they've just got blokes as headliners.

Like, if it was Stormzy/Macca/The Cure, that's 7 blokes (I know it can't be Macca now but ignore that).

If it's Stormzy/The Strokes/The Cure, that's 11 blokes.

Same thing tbh.

Obviously the word "couple" isn't entirely accurate if this is what she means, but it's what I took it as.

Like, if she meant 2 solo males and the third headliner was a male band it'd be a weird way to say it.

"We've got a couple of blokes headlining."

"Oh, who's the third headliner then? A female?"

"No, just some more blokes."

*Makes mental note to use the term 'The Eavii' more often*

I could easily be way off, but I do think it's strange they're seemingly going back to ground so soon after releasing the album.

It's basically a year isn't it of fairly constant touring? It's probably not a lot less than their previous efforts.

Didn't they also do a string of Sheffield homecoming gigs in Autumn? Wouldn't necessarily return on the same album after that

Well a group/band would not be another bloke :D You could change the "just some more blokes" in your sentence to "a band" and it make more sense. I think "couple" was the operative word.

I personally think she had/has Macca lined up but it may have now fell through.

Do you think she means bands are included then?

"We've got a couple of blokes" makes it sound like they've asked on facebook if anybody knows somebody in the local area who can do headlining, are cheap and won't take the mickey, then somebody's put her in touch with their brother and his apprentice Joe. Steve and Joe, rocking up in the white van at half 8, job done by 10, good couple of blokes.

I'm not sure how involved he is, but I think he's very likely to know who they're going for &/or have booked as headliners.

I think we're maybe all falling into the trap of listening to the Eavis clan too much.

They often say things that turn out to be false either because circumstances change or because it was always bollocks (in Michael's case). Michael has said specific things personally to me and people I know which have turned out to be completely wrong.

I'm pretty damned sure that Emily plays it straight.

I'm only aware of one occasion something she's said was different to what happened (she she ruled out Stevie Wonder then he headlined that year), and she assured me he wasn't in the frame at the time she said that.

Oh I agree generally - that's actually what I was thinking about when I mentioned circumstances changing. But with Macca aren't we assuming that could have happened again?

Emily said the other day on her Lauren laverne interview that we’re lucky to have the bands we have playing.  Could be a general comment about the whole lineup but could be about the other headliners.

that sounded to me like a "lower your expectations" comment, because it was said alongside some stuff about how they can't/don't pay full-whack.

If Macca was in the frame, then yep, things have changed. If Macca was never in the frame then who knows?

My take is that the Macca info i had was right at the time, but I'm well aware it could have been wildly wrong.

I think that's right that in terms of the 3 main organisers, Nick is the most involved in the booking side - as far as I'm aware it's still Martin Elbourne who's primarily responsible for most of what happens on the biggest stages and probably would be the best person to ask (if he was actually listening that is).

Neither Martin or Nick have anywhere near the public profile of Emily (or Michael) so they don't get name-checked that often.

last time I asked Martin - was probably about two years ago (tho might have been longer) - he said he was mostly involved with booking the JP stage.

    • They are going to have Blink 182 for sure, early June upto around Werchter weekend I'd say for them. Two of Sweden Rock,  Greenfield and RFP are going to miss out.
    • I've come across a few this weekend saying Deftones aren't big enough for Download.   I would recommend b&b hotel hbf the night before....cheap, comfortable and very decent. Within 10 minutes from the station and a tram stop outside to jump on...all travel is free during the festival time as well with a kombi. Lidl is very good and cheap I can't lie....€6 for a chair with carey handle, €20 with a bag too...you can work that out yourself.   If you camp, get up at 5am and go to the queue....literally don't question it as now I know.     The travel wise part is easy when you get the hang of it and I've never had an easier exit from a festival today tbh. We were camped in the turn left section but past the registration and to get water you have to come right out.   Opening up an exit through he camp at least by Friday morning when everyobe is there would be much better but you csnt walk through general if you're green and sonon.   I think the issue for me probably too is I have never taken like a mutliple litre water too, I've always done a 6 pack water from like poundland lol but you definitely need it. I had one shower that was cold lol   Talking of getting into the front, Volbeat was the only easy one, for Maiden and especially Linkin Park if you weren't in the queue for it by at least the last quarter ot Architects you had no hope....it was shocking. I do like orbit to sit down. I had to decide to sack off Within Temptation too or no chance.   Second stage biggest gripe is the faff of walking all the way round when VIP or whatever it is literally get access to each bit. I did read tbh before going people though RIP/Ring was turning too much the wrong way.   Also as a side note, caught some of Limp Bizkit last night too and they are not headliner but any distance at all. Yes they pull a crowd...they would do with LP finished but on the grand scale its a super weak booking. Stop, start for video recordings all the way through a headline set?, 1hr 15 minutes and you can't play for that time. I'm so glad they were not chosen to headline main.   On another thing, if RIP played it right they'll get GC and Avril to sub/second stage headline on the Blink day.   Toilets and cleanliness is a big plus I will say that.
    • Any of the likes of Keo, Basht. and Cardinals could all fit in here.  Although they’re the sort of bands that could fit many of the stages at Glastonbury
    • Glasto loves a come back act - how about the Rapture?
    • Yeah mentioned in the park thread but feel more Woodsies to me
