Looks like dave has something playing on his conscience. Denying his 'best mate' his lifelong wish. Utter c**t.

It is strange to me that when pink Floyd is mentioned your and stu's first thought is of part time member gilmour ahead of founder member mason...

But no matter, the blame lies completely and utterly in the lap of Glastonbury festival. The most shocking, short, sighted, depressing, mean spirited decision in the history of the festival.

Possibly Gilmour was mentioned because of the thread title?

BTW, you are just doing the hyperbole for effect right?

Ugh god, Pink Floyd. Drivel. w*nky moany woe is me pretentious shite made by slumming middle class twats. I'd rather watch take that headline the pyramid stage than Pink bastarding bloody Floyd.

Actually I'd rather hack out my eyes and yank my ear canals right out of my skull than watch either, to be honest. But there's nothing on earth more bloody boring than student Floyd enthusiasts droning on about dark side of the moon and ummagumma! A plague on anyone who hasn't grown out of that shite by the time they turn twenty!

I would also like to see you hack out your eyes and yank your ears canals right out of your skull

Does the previous business with the festival turning away gilmour, wright and Mason from headlining at the last minute mean were unlikely to ever see gilmour play?

why on earth would he ever want to appear at a festival that callously turned down his best friends dying wish to play?

Cancer stricken richard wright wanted to play the festival with david gilmour and nick mason - and it is speculated that roger waters would have agreed to play too - as a dying wish (he'd always wanted to play glastonbury) but the festival organisers said no because they didnt want to upset jay z, kings of leon or the verve.

Had no idea about that, is there a source for this? I appreciate it's a difficult one for the Eavises, seeing as they tend to book headliners so far in advance, hence why Foo Fighters haven't been able to reschedule yet.  I absolutely love Pink Floyd and they would've been an amazing headliner but it is quite arrogant to expect them to rearrange like that.

Yes, getting a terminal illness is the height of arrogance.

Let's be honest here though, this is the actual quote from Gilmour:

"One of the last things he wanted to do, in this last year, was to do a big outdoor festival, such as Glastonbury. We weren't able to do that due for all sorts of strange reasons, which, again, is a sadness."

Such as. So basically Glastonbury is an aside to the story - his main wish was that he wanted to play a big show with his bandmates again.

If his bandmates had any intention whatsoever of following through, then they could have easily arranged a 1 day event in Hyde Park at short notice. The stage etc and other facilities were left in place for several weeks, and 2008 was before the licensed number of days was cut.

Instead they make a half arsed token gesture of phoning the Festival Office 3 weeks before the event is due to take place.

What a despicable bunch.

It is sort of true, but you'll learn about Russy and his exaggeration. Richard Wright found out he had terminal cancer, and so they asked if they could headline as he'd always wanted to do it. However, everything had already been booked. IIRC, this was around May time, so not exactly loads of notice.

Had no idea about any of this. I'd have been gutted if it happened and I wasn't there, didn't go between 2005-2009... It's a shame, would've been fantastic.

Oh come on, what's your problem? I didn't say that at all and you know it. I said it's arrogant to expect someone who's painstakingly arranged a festival to rearrange, so don't twist things. If Rick was so desperate to play Glastonbury, there were plenty of other opportunities, he could've even gone solo albeit obviously not headlining, if he wanted.

Saw Roger in 2002, my mate's girlfriend, now wife, just deliberately ran into a bloke about 10 yards away and bounced off him, funniest thing I ever saw at Glastonbury, she just got really embarrassed about it and she doesn't talk about it even now.
