Loving that new track, on the live performance front has anyone ever heard this? Incredible mixing, would love to have seen this http://www.theavalanches.com/music/big-tent-set-2006.mp3

Dunno if you've seen this but it's a pretty comprehensive list of live sets, I've started making my way through them recently there's some amazing mixing going on https://www.reddit.com/r/theavalanches/comments/2zj33i/24_and_counting_of_the_avalanches_mixtapes_live/

Have you heard anything about them for this year's fest Neil? Curious why they only play Field Day and Wildlife, especially with Emily's instagram post.

Nope, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't really keen doing the live thing and have gone for big-offers-only. It's hardly like they've ever been prolific in the public sphere. I get the impression that heaven for them is being locked in a room playing, able to do whatever the fuck they like.

But Emily's post is perhaps hopeful.

They were definitely offered Glastonbury – spoke with people at XL earlier on in the year, who confirmed as much – but they weren’t sure whether they could do it “logistically.” Whatever that’s supposed to mean...

Yeah, but Primavera very obviously haven’t gotten any kind of exclusivity clause in this instance...

Sincerely hope they play somewhere/ anywhere, but at this juncture, I just can’t see it happening...

Glastonbury are well known for paying rubbish fees as most bands will accept because it's Glastonbury. This is probably why bands like The Avalanches could not be attained.

But I know a band who were quite high up on the JP a couple of years back, just under the sub I believe, and they didn't even get a four figure fee.

As a result of this I'm not sure we'll see said band on the farm any time soon, unless they got a good slot and the right £££.

I have a problem believing that. They were paying the first band on £500 over a decade ago.

Perhaps it was less than a grand for a band member of that band...?

Maybe, all I know was he said it wasn't even a four figure fee.

I've booked them myself so I know how much they get paid for a headline show and the fee they supposedly got in 2014 was a fraction of this.

But £500 for an opener of the JP is probably not likely nowadays considering some of the openers are really unheard of bands.

For example... She Drew the Gun you could get for £100-150 comfortably on a headline tour. No reason for Glasto to be paying them that amount.

as was that band.

The band didn't even know they were getting paid, so it came as a bit of a surprise.

Damn knowing Glastonbury were after them but seemingly unsuccessful makes it even worse. Guess they could pop up in a secret set somewhere, but as I've said, why keep such a great booking a secret? Think they would've been great doing something like subbing WH

So I saw them last night. Just two of them in the end playing a DJ set for an hour. It was a pretty great DJ set and a fantastic way to end the night.

Would've liked a little more Since I Left You spliced in there (maybe 4-5 songs off it were discernible), they started off by playing Tonight and they played A Different Feeling and Frontier Psychiatrist for a reasonable amount of time. Atmosphere was great and the new song did sound considerably better as part of a mix. Subway sounded pretty ace.

All in all wasn't the amazing experience that some of their early shows sounded like, but was one of the best DJ sets I've seen in a quite a while.

I went to the Hackney gig last night, and can only say 'meh'.

They played for a an hour and, as @arcade fireman says, was pretty much a DJ set. Started OK, but the lads seemed well refreshed before getting on stage. The mixing was not good, and a few tracks missed the mark.

I probably hoped for too much, but wouldn't be making a dash to see them if they did pop up on the farm.

Heard a few people say it was a bit of a car crash last night. Will check them out on Sunday and if they're shit just wander off.

Would be good to know if it was a one off.. it had the makings of something decent. I was by the sound desk and the crew looked confused by everything too.

  • 3 weeks later...

New albums available to stream today, anyone heard it? I love it, gets about as close to since I left you as possible after 16 years and members dropping out for me after a couple of listens.

Although I will admit I've only waited 4 years and I don't listen to much else of this genre (what genre even is this?). Would love to hear what people who have waited the full 16 years think.

West Holts 2017, make it happen Eavii!

    • TOP 10 acts (top 5 in bold😞   Blood Orange (ciutat)   Guitarricadelafuente   Oklou - Looks like I'm capable of enjoying music in the rain after all, just not the whole night.   Rilo Kiley   The Cure   Jade   Depresión Sonora   Gelli Haha (Parc del Forum) - Her music never really clicked with me. Until I saw her live.   MARINA   Six Sex (ciutat) - I was shocked how supersmall the venue was and that almost everyone (except for me) knew every word of every song (including the ones that were released this weekend!).   Honorable mention:   Ashnikko - missed the first 15 minutes (because of Gelli Haha) and I'm not really a fan of her music, but the show was an absolute blast.
    • Totally agree about PinkPantheress stage choice. 'Luckily' for me, one of my main targets, fakemink, was absolutely awful, meaning that I left early and was in a surprisingly good spot at Cupra before it got totally packed.
    • As many said before, not my favourite Primavera. sh*tty weather is something I'm not really used to when enjoying music. Poor communication (more than 1 hour long radio silence during the worst rain) didn't help, but the main problem was me. I decided to leave the venue after things seemed to be getting back to normal. Massive Attack were supposed to play again (with Hymn of the Big Wheel back on the setlist!) as were all other artists on the smaller stages (including Fcukers with one my favourite albums of the year). FOMO was at an all-time high. However, after 4 hours in the rain, I had to admit to myself that I'm not cut out for this. I wasn't even that soaked (water-proof jacket worked). I was just fed up with the rain, wind and cold and wasn't able to enjoy music anymore.   Also, they should stop ignoring the growth of some artists between signing them up and their actual performance. Both PinkPantheress and Ninajirachi sets were ruined for me by completely inadequate stage choice.   However, I felt very much the same way after the 2022 edition and have thoroughly enjoyed all subsequent editions. So I'm still buying early bird tickets for 2027 and hoping this was a hiccup not the start of a downward trend.
    • I will definitely be buying a 2027 early bird pass, partially because of the priority reservation privileges for the Ciutat sets. Hopefully the organization will take action to improve upon this year's failings. Because I thought the free water options and sound quality were an improvement over last year, so clearly they can actually implement positive changes.   I also hope all the douchebag chompers get in the sea, cause I was more bothered by them than in the past few years.   Highlights: The Cure, Ninajirachi, Knocked Loose, Current 93, Blood Orange.
    • Similar feelings to a few others on here. Not my personal favourite edition but a long way from giving up on it. Felt overcrowded at times and there are just too many people there that don't seem to like music that much! Hardly went to main stages which was the plan. Highlights Ralphie Choo, rusowsky, Gorillaz, Geese, Gelli Haha, The Sophs, PinkPantheress, Dijon. Accommodation booked for next year. Thanks for your company and comments over the past year.
