That Pyramid can be a very lonely place for a solo artist and it takes something special to maintain audience interest (particularly in the daytime). I thought the same of Laura Marling in 2011 but have seen her on smaller stages since and really enjoyed it.

* Disclaimer: the above statement in no way endorses Ed Sheeran to headline the Pyramid stage in 2017

I agree, it's such a big stage for one person, so it needs to be done right. I'm sure Ed Sheeran has his qualities and a couple of his songs I find catchy but after seeing him on the Pyramid I wouldn't buy his CD or pay to see him at a gig.

I don't think you can look at someone's popularity based on how many people are there for the last song. People arrive early to see the next band and as a result catch the last of the previous band.

I've seen the end of plenty of bands that I'm not interested in :)

I'm no Ed Sheeran fan, but I doubt all those people were getting into position for Black Keys.

Were you there though? The crowd thinned out a lot after he started - it was very noticeable and we soon joined them.

He has catchy songs that are always on the radio, of course he's going to sell out at concerts. That doesn't mean he is exciting to watch :)

I would say the same about Adele and stage presence. I'm looking forward to her potentially headlining but I'm very aware she's one person on a massive stage. She definitely has more character than Ed though.

I saw Ed Sheeran on Croissant Neuf in 2011 because a mate I was with was convinced he was the 'next big thing'. She was right I suppose but he barely had enough going on to entertain a tent of what - 200 people?

Ha I was there because I too thought he was going to be the next big thing, and I liked his 'A Team' song. Thought he was entertaining enough, irked his four songs out a bit though. Although his chat was terrible.

It wasn't terrible, or even bad really. It was 'fine'. That's about all the opinion I can muster on Ed Sheeran.

Kept us out of the rain, which is something I suppose

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
    • Interesting the stat guys say 3 points and -3 goal difference is where it gets to 50/50 territory in terms of going to the last 32. If Scotland lose their last 2 at best they are on -1, play like they did yesterday and they could take a heavy loss.   However thinking about it positively get 4 points from the last 2 games and the group is won! Have heard a few saying Scotland should just park the bus next 2 games, but not sure they have the players to do it. From my perspective they could really do with a decent defensive midfielder to add balance, but not sure if they have one in the squad. They also need significantly more from Mctominay who I thought was poor, but understand he has been unwell.
    • Yup and they aren't all going to get them, some are going to miss out. Speaking of this, I met someone at RIP who went to RFP and his view was band wise it's value for money but it wasn't a festival itself he'd be rushing to return to. In fairness as well he probably liked more of the headliners there than me this year whereas I was more undercard and he wasn't returning.
