Lol at marking a bands popularity depending on how many efestivals pages their threads are on. If both played a Sunday, I would put my life on more being at Coldplay than Radiohead

I saw someone on Facebook (so apply salt) saying that Michael had spoken at an event at which he had said that Coldplay have invited him to join them for a closing song. He said that he'd refused. I wouldn't bet against it.

True but I also reckon if you said to people they could only eat either mcdonalds cheese burgers or sushi for the rest of their life more would choose burgers. I know which group would live longer though...and have the nicest smelling wind.

As much as I appreciate the talent of Bowie and Prince, neither were really my bag to be honest and if all I see all weekend is other bands doing covers of their songs it's going to do my nut in to be honest.

I am a fan, if not a hardcore fan, and I don't want to see it either. Mainly because they will probably be really bad versions of songs I like. So yeah, I agree, just for different reasons.

I do like some of their work, just not a massive fan. But I'm with you , last thing anyone wants is multiple bands crucifying heroes and purple rain all weekend. Even worse if they make a big speech like they were their best mates, that really winds me up and is borderline disrespectful.

Totally agree. The Lightning Bolt on the Pyramid is a nice idea, Hot Chip have got the Prince stuff under control, let's leave it there.

I'm a huge fan of Bowie, Prince not so much (I like some of his music but wouldn't consider myself a big fan) and I can't wait to hear some covers, as long as they're decent of course - there's nothing worse than hearing one of your favourite records murdered. I've always been a big fan of artists covering other artists, especially when they are no longer with us. A decent cover version can invoke all kinds of fantastic memories and feelings.

Essentially, good artists doing tribute covers are often quite good. Terrible acts doing them are always terrible.

If you're watching an artist who's terrible anyway then you've got no one but yourself to blame if you don't like their version of Life On Mars?

Point well made! I am a fan of covers myself, some of my favourite songs are covers, just think it might get a bit silly over the course of the weekend!
