Hiring a campervan for next year

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of hiring a campervan for next year but don't want to commit until I know if I have a ticket and who's going with me. Does anyone know how late you can leave it before all the campervans in the world are booked up for Glastonbury weekend?

Looks like they charge more for Glastonbury week.

Lots of them charge more as they hire Saturday - saturday so effectively you are taking two weeks and the chances of them back to back hiring are slimmer

Plus its Glastonbury and supply outweighs demand

Find a mate, or someone local to you, and borrow/rent it off em, it's the only way. It might even be worth tapping on a neighbours door if they've got one, and taking them out for a couple of beers and a chat.

slippery slope, I think we're hiring one for End of the Road this year. Can I go back to camping after that?

you may struggle. Trailer tents are not cabin luggage for you, but others may find them for sale for the same price as a cv hire, as an option.

We hire a campervan from the same company every year on a pay a deposit now and pay in full later system.

They have reserved us a van for next year (T day fingers crossed!) but did say that the Grand Prix at Silverstone dates clash for 2016 with Glasto so lots of pressure/decisions on them as to who they will support! Perhaps others the same.

Just a thought, worth perhaps finding a company asap who will take a deposit if you wanted to go down that route.

We rented one in 2010 & 2011, both 3 berths and both years from the same place. They were a bit wrecked (before we got them!) and needed running "repairs" such as me holding on to the wing mirror all the way home while Mr Mandolin was driving in 2011. We paid somewhere around 650 the first year and 800 the second. That guy went out of business by 2013 and the cheapest we could find was 1200 for a similar sized but newer one - we didn't go ahead with it because we ended up not trusting the website we got the quote from. Haven't tried since but hope that's in some way helpful, Yog.

I suppose it's a how long is a bit of string question but what sort of prices do these hire companies charge?

You're looking at upwards of £700 for a week, and it can be extremely upwards of that. So all told a grand for seven days hire, various collision damage waivers and cleaning charges etc, and a good £500 deposit at least too. Not cheap. £200 to a mate for a lendsies is much more appealing!

This is what we have been told too.

We paid £1300 for ours this year .... we actually had the van for 10 days rather than the duration of the festival only. Sadly, I didn't have enough annual leave to take advantage of the extra days.

Something worth bearing in mind is that some small operators might offer a cheaper price but the larger operators at least have access to more vehicles. In 2013, we arrived to collect the van and found we'd be given one much larger than we had ordered. The previous hirer of the van we should have been given had an accident in it so it was unusable. We'd have been let down if they hadn't had another van to give us.

I would suggest doing what another person said, ask a mate too borrow or a neighbor.

I keep my van at work and had a note on my windscreen a few months ago asking if I would rent my van out.

I declined because I didn't know who the person was and my van is my escape from the bollox of the week.

A neighbour or a friend might be different

This would be the perfect solution. I only know one person who has one - and they take it to Glastonbury. It'd be a bit mean of me to hope they fail on T day!

Thanks for the information mandolin + balti-pie + Crystal Waters.

Some of those figures are eye wateringly steep. We have a two berth campervan already and will probably be trying to get tickets for Glastonbury next year. My wife has indicated that if she were to go again then it would have to be in the campervan (campervan and entry tickets permitting). This would be a novel experience for me as I have only ever camped before. It would also mean having a partial festival away from friends which would be weird.

    • Hezbollah rejected it. Really Israel should get the f**k out, and US and others should support the Lebanese govt in defeating Hezbollah.
