Hiring a campervan for next year

An idea to put in the mix is buy a caravan on eBay or gumtree for a few hundred pounds and sell it afterwards. Need a towbar, but worth thinking about.

This!!

I had the same idea a couple of years ago and was planning to spend around 5 or 600 quid then sell it on straight after. The caravans that were being sold for that price were a bit ropey so I decided to spend a bit more to make sure that I could resell it. I ended up paying a grand for a 16 year old van and fell in love with it! It's warm and dry, it keeps my beers cold and has a shower and toilet. I decided to keep it and the only way I'll get rid of it now would be to upgrade to a 4 berth :D

I have looked into this but the prices always seem steep - thinking of investing in a converted VW transporter for around £5k that will last a few festis

I bought a T25 for less than that about 5 years ago, it's been fantastic (for this ageing old git :P).

I've ended up spending around £1k each year to maintain the condition and keep it on the road, but that works out around the same as maintenance & depreciation on the vehicle its replaced (tho I don't drive too many miles each year).

Mine's a petrol. Best thing I ever did was get an LPG system fitted to it as soon as I bought it - and now (in effect) get double the miles per galleon, as LPG is around half the price of petrol. It makes it cheaper to drive than the car it replaced.

I think we're going to go down the purchase a trailer tent route once I get a tow bar fitted on the new car... Was it grumpyhack selling one on here a while back?!

yes, but I think he's away at the moment.

I looked into this last year and by far the cheapest option was to hire a caravan to be delivered to site. Have a spreadsheet with all the details if anyone is interested. Just pm me you email address.

Thanks for the information mandolin + balti-pie + Crystal Waters.

Some of those figures are eye wateringly steep. We have a two berth campervan already and will probably be trying to get tickets for Glastonbury next year. My wife has indicated that if she were to go again then it would have to be in the campervan (campervan and entry tickets permitting). This would be a novel experience for me as I have only ever camped before. It would also mean having a partial festival away from friends which would be weird.

Take a tent too, pitch up with your friends so you have a Base with them too... Then you can choose where to sleep. Can't see the problem with that as long as your 2nd home isn't a 10 bed job the size of a small country estate!

Thanks for the suggestion bexj as it had never crossed my mind to do such a thing. That said, I'm not too sure how delighted with the suggestion her indoors will be with it!

    • One problem could be that many of the hospitality packages are already sold out. Unless you’ve a media contact, media organisations normally get a hospitality allocation.
    • I agree on WA taking a year off in 2027. But if they got the call from R&L could see them having a similar August to what Fontaines are doing now. A few random shows + 2/3 other festivals. The festival/LN does seem to love them as well so there is a chance they take a punt.   I did see about Rodrigo potentially doing a stadium in Poland but no clue if that would be 2027 or 2028, I just can't see her at the Fest at all, seems too big in current climate.   If I were to guess the headliners next year I'd go with Fred Again/Foos/Capaldi/Olivia Dean/Biffy or Wolf Alice/Some Rapper, Tems?
    • Ulitimately the “Top 6” or top 2 on a day by day basis work as a collective   You could easily have Foo Fighters and someone else much weaker on a single day   As long as they add up to 3, whether they’re a 2 and 1 or both 1.5s it doesn’t really matter   The Florence- Chase and status day is basically a 1.5 and 1, hence it selling the weakest
