West Holts - Volume

Because they are brilliant, because I use the disabled viewing platform I kept seeing the sound engineer come out and make sure all sounding good.

I was lucky after Hot Chip I asked the security guard to thank sound engineer, but he wanted to talk to me, it was so lovely to thank them for making west bolts such a great stage, really nice bloke as well :)

The mix was very good, no problems there, just very loud.

Seemed strange, i spent a lot more time at west holts than i have done at previous festivals so perhaps i just noticed it more, but seemed loud compared to the other stages.

It was VERY loud. Didn't really notice it at George Clinton as we were right down the front but we dropped by on Sunday morning for Ibibo Sound and arrived via the back of the field during Flamingods. Couldn't believe the volume. Sounded great too, well balanced (as if I know what I am talking about) clear and crisp. Once again West Holts proving it's one of the best places to be at Glastonbury

Personally I thought the sound was way off for Run The Jewels, at some points El-P was barely audible and the music was very low compared to the vocals. It made the thing feel quite flat when they were quite clearly giving it their all.

Every other band I saw there was fine.

isn't that kinda contradictory? agree with you that there were some problems though, EL-P seemed to be very quiet at times.

Its fairly isolated so not much chance of sound bleeding. Turn it up!

We were watching someone - mibbe Steel Pulse - from the back of the field and we still had to shout to one another to make ourselves heard.

How were they? Missed em

Shame that even with it being so loud Marcos Valle still couldn't draw in a decent crowd :( hope he wasn't too disheartened

i went down for the Gaslamp Killer Experience.  it was the smallest crowd i ever saw in that field, literally a couple of hundred.  even the bars were dead.

it did pick up, a bit, but then it rained.  there were more in the west holts bar singing along to cheesey 80s tunes.

did sound good though! (before i joined in in the bar with Erasure)

The sound was fantastic and incredibly clear even at the back of the toilets at the back of the field. The sound for Todd Terje was much better at those toilets than it was when I was in the crowd for him at Field Day, so much so I enjoyed the bit I heard and had a bit of a dance. Incredible stuff.

I mean at the start Killer Mike was really loud and EL-P low. They brought them up to the same level but the music still seemed flat.

I was pretty disappointed as they were the band I was looking forward to the most.

maybe that sound depended on where you were in the field, i saw them from beside the mixing desk and it was great - the bass was fantastic.

didn't know much about them before i watched them, but i thought they were excellent.

I was in front of the mixing desk and EL-P definitely had some issues at the start. Sounded like he just wasn't turned up loud enough, or possibly he was just bouncing around too much.

he was very excited.  loved it when he had to get a hug from Mike before he could continue!

It's definitely the best stage sound wise and, along with the Park, lineup wise.

That Friday night run on West Holts was superb.

I don't think I've ever been in better form at Glasto than I was during Hot Chip.

A definite all-time high point

I was to the right. It could may of well been the wind. I moved to the left at the end as I was meeting a mate a brothers to walk down to Libs and it did sound better stood outside brothers.

Does anyone know why West Holts was so much louder than any of the other main stages?

its several factors, fist is the layout of the filed, the pyramid and other suffer from crosswinds quite a lot whereas WH faces the the prevailing wind, also the fact that is in a narrow tree lined field helps if you do get crosswinds. The stage itself faces out lengthways into the vally which I believe funnels the sound and the direction it faces means there are no significant residential areas for quite some distance, which means it can run louder than other stages.

Steel Pulse -Great late afternoon skanking with one of the most vicious bass sounds ever - the type you feel deep in your internal organs more than in your ears

I can across Marcos Valle by accident and was loving his set. Unfortunately I had to go for cover in the bar as I wasnt prepared for the downpour.
