Mouseboy11
Anyone really know? I assume it's to try and discourage people taking cars to the festival. It's supposedly £35 on the gate this year! Looking around that's compared to £10 at Reading and £20 at Download! Edit: If I order now are they likely to turn up? I've heard many people complain on here they haven't and my brother is yet to receive his that he ordered with his tickets. fatyeti24
ostensibly to discourage car travel, as you say. though it'd be interesting to know how many fewer cars go as opposed to, say 2008 when it cost about a fiver, versus the extra income generated between now and then. Slugworth
I got mine for £25 when i purchased my ticket. I'm happy paying £5 a day to park my car.

windy_miller
It would be interesting to see if the car numbers have fallen over the last few years or not. I suspect not.
phil the shrew
Discouraging people to come by car is certainly a factor in the licence the festival gets from the Council Last year on the Sunday I got speaking to some locals in on the day tickets and they said a lot of the fields used for parking aren't owned by the festival and the Eavis family. They therefore charge a high fee for using their land for the festival - some suggestion local landowners make more from that than they do from farming

How Many cars, 15-20-30,000, think about it.

They might as well put a "rich people only" banner up on the car park entrance.
A Guy Called Matt
Parking in Bristol car parks is around £5 an hour in places. £5 a day at GF is not expensive.

It's expensive because an awful lot of people will travel to the festival using their car and so therefore GFL know they can sell the tickets to the car parks for pretty much whatever they want. £35 on the gate yes but, to be fair, it's £25 in advance. Next year it may be £25 but it won't be long until it's £30 and then £35 in advance and you can bet the rises won't be in line with inflation. Curlygirl
I think the car parking fee is reasonable. But also, the cash goes to the neighbouring farm owners to keep them happy. It wouldn't be good if they objected to the festival. And where would we park if they didn't rent their land out? Be a heck more expensive then I guess? Glastonlocal
None of the parking land is part of Worthy Farm - it has to be leased from other farms. Prices renegotiated every few years: costs go up. Parking costs also subsidise the costs associated with the extra train service and the free shuttle buses. lukemack1
I'd say it was cheap tbf, a very fair price to park your car for 5/6 days. I'd pay it just to be drooped at the gate and not have to get the shuttle bus.

Leggins
Can it be classed as expensive? If there are say 3 of you to a car (with kit etc) then it works out at about £1.66 per person per day on a £25 ticket. Come on.
Northern-Monkey
Last time I was in Dublin it was over €5 an hour to park, London £35 for 4 hours plus congestion charge, Manchester overnight £16 in an NCP book in advance - £25 for 5 nights is cheap!
