After Dark - where to go?

Also, by far the best experience was sitting in the secret piano bar at about 4am listening to a very youthful but extremely talented brass-band play, was weird walking out into the daylight but was such a warming atmosphere in there.

Personally I feel cheese and indy djs are a bit of a waste of glastonbury - anyone can do that anywhere. I'd like to find some electro, rare disco, funk, motown, soul, electro swing, funky brass bands and live acts you can dance to etc.

Any chance outside the se corner?

As above, Freddie and the Freeloaders are playing Thurday and Sunday nights at the West Holts bar. Can't help you with how to fill the rest of the time though.

We ended up in what we call the masons arms. A bar in the craft field behind the stone carvings where they have real ale, sofas, table football and a bar staying open till late. We ended up there about 6:00am after being at shangri la. They were doing morning keep fit exercises! We did a little before making our way back to the tent for a good night's sleep!

The Park is usually good and varied at night - there's indie etc (and some other stuff) in Stonebridge, I've seen some really good random bands in the Rabbit Hole (the bar bit not the hole), and the Ship bar also had good bands & music, more of a latino/caribbean feel. And there's silent disco if you want a bit of cheese.

No idea if the venues are the same this year!

Also some great little venues in the Greenfields, with more unusual music.

Way too much going on, I wish I could split myself into a hundred pieces and be everywhere at once!

Stayed there for about six hours on Friday night into Saturday morning.

Edit: meant Saturday morning, not Sunday. That would have been an intense night.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for finding different stuff while I'm there, so will definitely be heading to places like Stonebridge, Bimble and Avalon based on what people have said. But when you've had a cider or three and you find somewhere playing Wham, how can you turn it down??

Could I add another question following on from the OP, what late night bars / areas can people recommend that don't just play dance music, whilst I enjoy the spectacle of Shangri La Block 9 etc and always go for a wander round I just get a bit bored with basslines and bleeps (sorry!) - so is there anywhere that plays other types of music - rock/indie/reggae/ska anything really that isn't just dance?

Cheers all x

Friday night in the Cave this year is all reggae and dub

I wanna find a bar that plays 80s pop & general cheesy pop, any suggestions? Been guilty of just sitting at my tent & just drinking after the headliners finish in the past

Club de Fromage, Williams green. Friday night there last year after arcade fire was best night of 2014 glasto for me

I have to agree with a lot of your comments on here, they hype is great and exciting about the late night area but when it comes to it its very different, you feel herded all the way through and don't really stop and enjoy anything whilst going through, during the day it is great as its more relaxed, spacious and you can explore more, I remember one year we stumbled across an Irish bar with the U2 puppets with Guinness and a kamikaze karaoke as well with shots singing Jonny Cash - memorable moments (but maybe not for the crowd!) So don't get me wrong, its a fantastic area but you have to time it right to enjoy and for everyone thats a different time. As for other areas, thoroughly enjoyed the Bimble Inn which I believe is open until 4 or 5 am otherwise I have stumbled across all weird and wonderful things over time, even the Pilton Parlais with a good film is good sometimes :)

Oh yeah, listening to the wonderful Hattie Hatstar sing Windmill in Old Amsterdam late on Sunday in the groovy movie was the moment that it struck me how effing beautiful Glastonbury is. There really are some of the best highlights where you might least expect to find them. You just have to be curious... and always wander in..

Does silver hayes do late night stuff? Just wonder why anyone would choose to go there over shangri-la etc

Most of the stages close at around 3 I think. I often have at least most of a night there as I prefer the Wow Djs to most of the stuff in the SE Corner.

I think it's good to mix it up. Last year spent the Thursday around Beat Hotel/Wow which are both great, spent a night wondering around the Park, where Toddla T played Stonebridge - great shout for late night stuff as well as other bars in The Park. Other nights were spent generally wandering, always spend a fair bit of time at the SE Corner but prefer house to bassier stuff.

Certainly had times where I didn't enjoy that part of the site as much as I'd have thought, can often seem like queueing and wandering aimlessly a bit, but it's great when you find a gem - LBHQ and the outside Heaven stage at Shangri-La last year were a highlight - Hell stage is good too.

The Common is worth a visit as well, The Cave has some good reggae-dub stuff and the Temple is fantastic. You can basically have a great night anywhere to be honest, definitely good to have a good look at a few things on offer - there's five nights after all. Ending at least one night at the Stone Circle for sunrise is obligatory.

I LOVE The Back of Beyond (The Common). I hate dance/DNB etc. - it's all classics, copying a cowboy dancing on the wall, dancing with skeletons- bizarre but a great night.

YES. I'm glad you mentioned this, been trying to remember where this was since 2011. The staff at the venue also started worshipping a pile of our bags, handbags and coats too. Very odd but also quite brilliant.

If my friends hadn't confirmed this place existed I would've assumed it was just the product of me being far too inebriated and dreaming it.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Small World Solar Stage.

When it gets dark it's lit by candlelight, which creates a lovely intimate atmosphere. Acoustic music until sunrise, serving Brandy Hot Chocolate in real mugs.

It's a great option for those of us who can't keep up with the Car Alarm music in Block 9 etc.

Did anyone else find that tiny little place at shangri-la last year that was like basically an office?

We popped our heads in to see what it was and we got dragged in by 'the boss' who was screaming about us being late.... some other fella was walking around asking people to fax things, throwing folders around.

I got given a note that said 'I love you pig'.

Can't remember what music they were playing, but I'm sure it wasn't techno or anything hardcore, remember singing along. It was a fun little place to spend 20 mins or so.

YES! that was the HR Dept - people were having a ring binder rave when I went in there - one of my fave moments of the weekend!
