The Jam

Hogshead

Firstly we get the announcement that Paul Weller is subbing for The Who, then Rick Buckler appears on TV this morning plugging his new book about the band.

Is it just me or does anybody else wish the two of them could bury whatever hatchet they have and reform in June just for us? Sure Bruce would be up for it!

The Jam then The Who.... how good would that be?

Sadly I know my brothers words to "keep dreaming" are correct....but I will all the same.

As my brother has said , it's a pipe dream and as being 6 years older than him, I've seen them when they were in their pomp , not to rub it in or anything :), still he can cling to the very slim chance. I've not read, perhaps because I didn't really care at the time, why Weller's Father was the reason for the split, but seems a scar that can't be healed. Weller's gone his own way now and that ship has flown. IF it ever did happen, of course I'd be there front and centre!

Won't happen. Weller would look like a massive hypocrite since he takes every opportunity possible to vent his negative feelings towards reunions and nostalgia.

i'm a massive Who fa as you might guess but if The Jam did do something then and they were on a different stage at the same time as the Who then i know where i would be. Never seen them live, couldn't get tickets for their last ever tour and wouldn't miss them at Glasto even for my favourite band The Who. Pete Townshend was always very anti re-unions and nostalgia but look at the last 20 years, things can change so there's always hope that Weller will soften. I remember when he did Glasto in 2008 the only time the crowd were happy was for a couple of Jam related numbers - the buzz from a good Jam performance at Glasto would be something to treasure forever!

He has a new album out and is generally a "here's my new album and a couple of my better known solo numbers" c**t at festivals. (Edit: Also known as "doing a Paul Simon").

Save that for the fans who pay exclusively to see you at your gigs.

We were lucky to get Town Called Malice and Thick as Thieves last time I guess.

Noel Gallagher got it when interviewed after his T performance, "people want a greatest hits set at festivals, they're not interested in your new stuff".

Sorry for the tone but I've never really forgiven him for splitting up The Jam.

What a waste of a back catalogue.

Weller will play 50% from new album and rest will be solo songs from recent albums. You ain't gonna get any Style Council songs. Most will be Town Called Malice as last song.

Looking at his appearances both this year and at previous festivals on set list that is how it will go.

Just looked at SetlistFM, if you're a Paul Weller fan then it'll be great, if you're a Jam fan then not so much!

there are a few great tracks on the setlists but unless your a Weller fan you wont know it.

Even great Weller tracks like wild wood don't feature. And loads of great style council tracks don't feature.

He would only need to throw in That's entertainment, pretty green, to be some-one, eton rifles, town called malice, my ever changing moods, shout to the top, wild wood, changing man, strange town, above the clouds.

that would be a set to remember.

He has no reluctance to play his Jam or S Council stuff, he even put out a live solo album featuring it.

When he plays big open gigs like the Forest gigs he plays a very nostalgic crowd friendly set, but equally I saw him in March when he was starting the new album promotion and he played only solo work, but made the comment -

'If anyone asks if Weller played any old stuff, tell them he played fucking loads, this one is over twenty years old' . People forget The Jam were only together for five years and he split them 33 years ago .... the vast majority of his work isn't The Jam so really shouldn't dominate the sets.

As for a Jam reunion? Cant ever see it. Its on the shelf with The Smiths as far as I can see.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
