Usually when there's a drone show planned, permission is sought from the CAA, so that it can be included in NOTAMs... That's how all of the 'secret' drone shoes I've attended have been leaked in advance.

So I went to check drone assist, and the NOTAMs and temporary FRZs are already in place for Glastonbury.

Notams specify fireworks to 500ft, lasers, and search lights, nothing unusual.

There's a temporary FRZ in place, meaning nobody should be flying anything above the site without special clearance. (I am no expert, but I think that clearance would be mentioned in the NOTAMs if it had been sought.)

And there's jammers in place, so unless they're disabled, nobody is flying any drones above.

No mention of a drone show whatsoever. There's time yet, but so far nothing, and it is getting a little late in the day.

EDIT

Nevermind I'm a blind bat....

Drone show it is 🙂

So... now we've cleared that up... THIS is where the drone show is according to the NOTAMs.

Anybody know what's there?

100% Yes, they've filed it with the CAA

Great work team! Which night is the drone show? Or does that NOTAMs cover the whole event?

I would 'guess' it's the opening show. NOTAMS covers 8am Weds morning to 11pm Thurs.

Maybe they wanted to extend it to Thursday incase the wind is too high on the Weds.

But honestly, just guessing really, NOTAM covers 2 potential evenings, Wednesday and Thursday.

There's a number to call for more information if anybody has the nerve, the lingo and the gift of the gab. 😉

576 Drones... So it's not a particularly massive display... I've seen displays with over 1000... However, to put it into context, London NYE show had 600 apparently.

My question now is and was a bit further back if you are reading it all … don’t think I can see any sign of any wood piles in the usual spots for wed fires so will the drone display totally replace them and the fireworks or be in addition to ?

I would imagine a drone show would be cheaper than the fireworks. How much do you think GF spends on fireworks for the festival opening each year £10 - 20K?

These folks appear to be the leaders in Drone displays at present....and guess what....they're based just down the road near Frome.

Worth a drive by ? 🙂 and some casual questions about drone availability next wed ?

There's normally a block on anything overflying the festival site without permission but evidence has been found online that there are plans to fly 576 drones in the vicinity between 0800 Weds and 2259 Thursday.

Whilst I cant speak for glasto I can say the drones for London NYE cost more than the fireworks.

From I'm gleaned it will be fireworks and drones for the opening in Thursday

That's not in the Woodsies field. It looks like it's in family camping?

Yeah, it's Wicket Ground, or right next to it. Could be the breakfast place that they always have in that vicinity?

Looks like there was something similar in appearance nearby last year, but mostly hidden by the trees?

We camp in Wicket, and they change the layout in this area every year.

    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
