The Moody Blues

This might be the set of the weekend. They are a highly professional outfit. Still massive in the US. Their first 7 or 8 albums are masterpieces of symphonic rock but some of their later output is very good indeed. It would have to be someone really special for me to miss this

Saw them last year on plymouth

To say they were s***e would be making them sound better than they were!!

Justin's voice is shot. The drummer I think had arthritis and most was done by a 2 nd drummer. The sound was crap

The sound balance was crap

One of my all time favourite bands

Just wished I hadn't had this as my final memory of them live

I think Martin has got it right. Along with Patti Smith they are my must sees for this year.

Seen them a few times over the years(one of the things that goes with being an oldie) and they've written and produced some superb albums. Saw them a couple of years ago when they seemed to be struggling a bit but saw them more recently and they were back to form.

Very polished, beautifully crafted, pieces of work.

This might give you a flavour.

I liked that. I really don't know much about this band apart from the obvious. What's the best couple of albums to start with?

I'd follow them chronologically so start with Days of Future Passed, then In Search of the Lost Chord and then On The Threshold of a Dream.

They managed to get their full orchestral sound, before the days of synthesisers with the use of a Mellotron. Here demonstrated by Macca, as it was something also used by The Beatles.

some of the early stuff was about as weirdly trippy as it came at the time. I would recommend On The Threshold Of A Dream and To Our Children's Children's Children and In Search Of The Lost Chord. Or go for This is the Moody Blues which is a superb compilation from the first 7 albums.

I could be wrong but I don't think they've played a British festival since the early 70s so this is quite a rare occasion and the organisers probably worked hard to convince them to play.
