But unless I'm missing something isn't that what's happening now with The Roses?

There doesn't seem to be anything set in concrete that they are playing, much like Coldplay.

Oh there is nothing set in concrete. I wouldn't say it's exactly that, for one it's not a shed load off of this board doing it and two, we had (at the time) a fair bit more to go on than that to the point it was far from just speculation.

Paddy Power paid me out the next morning after Kanye West was announced, which can be expected, settling the market probably want their top priority

I've had a bit of the 12/1 on The Stone Roses this morning, I'm not at all confident but it's the best value for me

If mike99 works for a betting company, it's certainly not the same one as me, because there's been nothing to suggest it's The Stone Roses from here

Surely she's the most likely? 6/1 on WH yesterday.

Don't know why everyone is talking about Stone Roses

because two separate guys have now said they've heard it's them. i don't believe it but i guess it's more than we've had on any of the other options (even though Swift and Blurs' close proximity shows make them seem like the likelier options)

Opened a Paddy Power account and added £10 to get a free £20 bet.

Put £10 on Stone Roses at 12/1 and the free £20 on Blur at 4/1.

Not too fussed about either playing but I think Blur will be the last headliner.

And there's the mercy thing....putting up new mercy for sale suggests the band plans to become active again in some way

As much as I'm far from sure on this happening, there is no reason to add new merchandise and it's come and a random time. They would purposely put nothing up at the minute that could give any event away until they were ready to.

could be looked at either way really - if they were really planning on announcing new stuff + festival dates would they really want to potentially spoil the announcement by putting new merch up to begin with? but also, why would they just release new merch out of nowhere? at the end of the day, it's all their self-titled merch - nothing particularly new - so may just be a big coincidence

They must have a lot of people interested in buying stone roses merch still

It makes sense to have it in 'the shop window' so it has the potential to be bought by people even if its not ready yet

Then will just be shipped off when the order comes in

Didnt Neil have at least that many (reliable) sources whisper to him about Swift...?

yep i believe when he moved her to a SR on the Sunday he heard from one source that she was playing the Sunday and another that she was headlining. people are just jumping on this Roses business as it's immediately after a headliner announcement and so close to the big reveal. maybe it is correct, but i just don't see it.

Indeed it could but let's face it, who out of average person unless they were digging deep like that person did would ever visit the site to find out new merch on sale dates? I'd doubt that their store is that bombarded now lol, nothings happened in nearly 18 months.

By the looks of it, betting is only open until 8pm tonight, so get in now if you want to put some money on it.

It might re-open again before announcement, but it might not. Personally, I'm not putting anything down because I don't want to jinx who I want to be headlining :P

what is it with the english and gambling? there's a wager for anything you can think of, it's terrible. gambling issues in this country need a serious debate, starting with banning all advertising.

sorry to go off on a tangent here.

Indeed...FFS:

I'm far from comfortable with the whole "betting on Glastonbury" concept. Not that I have an issue with gambling per se. Just think the "field" is so open for manipulation. Naive of me as per usual. Just ain't sitting well with me.

Just think the "field" is so open for manipulation.

It definitely is, tho mostly because the people betting are less likely to be regular betters, I'd say. They'll be less aware of how books work and so are likely to think the odds mean something more than the money that is being put on those acts - as can be seen by some of the reactions to odds by posters on these forums.

I'd say that it's the sort of bet bookies aren't likely to do for many years, because while they're likely to well this year they're probably likely to get taken for big money via leaks in other years.

Mind you, perhaps they have the tabloids working for them. I've heard it alleged that The Daily Star ran last year's "Oasis to reform and play Glasto" story despite being told from all angles it was utter bollocks and supposedly having no source for what they printed.
