I'm sure i'm not alone in it being my first Glastonbury this year so i thought i'd make this thread for all us noobs to have a little chinwag (or is it fingerwag when using a keyboard) about our excitement and other such nonsense

so to kick us of i will introduce myself, I'm Sloseph, 26, many festivals under my belt but the big G has always evaded my until now, managed to get my coach ticket within 5 minutes of them going on sale and have spent every day since scouring the internet for all the Glastonbury related information i can get my grubby mitts on

this year will be my 3rd glastonbury so i am still (relatively) new.

The only advice I can give (which I ignored at my first glasto but have now come to my senses) is to not go overboard with planning.

The best parts of the festival are moments that you could never plan and instead just stumble upon!

It will be my first glastonbury

I'll be 31 at the time of the festival

Looking forward to it, but havent really done the research into the festival yet like others have

Don't research or plan! just turn up, blind to what it may be like. I wish I could do my first one again free of any preconceptions or plans. I thought i was going to see a bunch of bands in a field. I was so wrong, it's a life changer :)

You lucky lucky lucky lucky bastards! :)

haha yeah i'm certainly getting the impression it's going to be something a little bit special

as far as planning goes all i've got on my list of must do's is to climb a big ass hill and look out over the site, everything else is just bumble around and see what happens

Good plan.

The top of hill in The Park is great for a dusk view and a chill out. Stone Circle not so much anymore.

Yep seeing more of the site is more important than seeing more bands, so don't worry if you find yourself in a confession booth speaking to a priest when the headliners are on :-)

My advice is to pay attention to some of this advice, but don't live by it. I'd agree that you should try and see more of the site than just the main stages. However, I assume that because you're going to a music festival, you're quite in to music, so making plans to see bands you like and trying your best to stick to it might be more fun and memorable than wandering the Greenfields. Some of my best memories of Glastonbury are random 'moments'. Dancing at the flags to "The Time of My Life" with my then-girlfriend, sunrise at the Stone Circle, sitting against the Strummer Stone, other random encounters I can't really remember... Most my great memories are of seeing bands though.

It's well intentioned advice I know, but everyone has their own way of enjoying it!

Also, don't listen to all us grizzled old bastards. All this stuff about shoulds and shouldn'ts. Get out there and have your own festival, make some mistakes, learn a few things, knock us off our pedestals.

Yes indeed. The first festival is radically different to even the 2nd. Trying to tick "must do" boxes isn't what its about.

The best parts of the festival are the hours spent walking about lost sending postcards home to mates with jizzy cocks drawn on them.

Yeah can only echo what others will say, don't plan anything as you will never stick to it, it's virtually possible to see and experience everything properly in one festival. My biggest mistake was cramming to many acts in and missing half of the sets. My only recommendation is on the Wednesday going up to the flag field above the park for sunset it really is breathtaking if you like that sort of thing. I'll be there with a crate of scrumpy jacks.

I'm 34 and this is my first. I'm probably what you call a BBC couch Glastonbury person (they're the worst aren't they) or at least I have been since they've been covering it..

Well no more.. Me and the Mrs finally coming and I've been buzzing since October the 5th when I secured my ticket....

Just go with an open mind and be prepared to be blown away, no other festival is like it.

Newbie here too. I tried for tickets for 2014 but failed (got as far as entering my card details and clicking to complete the transaction then crashed out, which just made it even more gutting). Succeeded this time round though and can't wait for June.

I was 47 in 2007, never went to a festival, hadn't camped since boy scouts, didn't watch it on TV, wanted to go but nobody to go with so gave up any thought. Somebody popped up out of the blue, we went, I've been Glastonbury buzzing ever since. Enjoy the ride.

Glasto 1st timer here as well. Been to couple of other festivals in my 28 years but for various reasons haven't been before (couldn't get tickets, exams, no money etc). I'm also one of those lurkers reading everything on this forum in the lead up probably getting to excited... And already making plans in my head that will changed as soon as we arrive.
