What's everyone's perfect festival conditions?

Id have to go with: in the mid 20s and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of sun for a couple of hours in the arvo, maybe a light sprinkling in the early hours of a morning or two.

Is this too much to ask!!

WOAH WOAH WOAH

NO RAIN, NO FUCKING COMPROMISE

I was sure in 2005 that on the Thursday I'd seen one of the camping equipment stalls using the canoe to above their stall as a sign.

Yeah, pretty sure the canoe came from a shop sign... though there were assorted bits of watersports floating about (ahem...) because Brian Wilson played. People actually surfed on surfboards over/through the crowd, so they'd obviously come prepared!

wrong thread, its all spreadsheets, science, guesswork and occassional pessimism in here

I take one SeeTickets-enforced year off and all the rules change, man.

It used to be wall to wall Germans and the merest suggestion of "a nice light shower to dampen the dust" was tantamount to wishing a 2005 Thursday night over the whole weekend.

How accurate were the rainfall predictions last year? Did we know we were likely to get 40+ mm of rain on the Tuesday before the festival?

On the Tuesday of the festival a few places were reporting it. But I've yet to see a complete festival spanning forecast thats been accurate before the gates have opened.

In short, we're fucked.

After a quick scan, that thread seems to be about everything but weather and almost entirely pointless...

I think I'll stay in here, but accept that ways have changed.

I haven't read it recently I thought it was still "NFR NFC", "must appease the weather gods", "don't mention r**n" and Germany-related in jokes ad nauseam.

No, it's just full of people trying to organise an on site meet to pat themselves on the back for filling 1000 pages with utter drivel.

Disappointing.

I'm going to sit here quietly and wait for JackOne and William of Walworth to arrive for some proper, old-fashioned weatherchat.

Jackone (or J10 as he's now known) has started posting although even by his own admissions everything is to be taken with a large lorry of salt at the moment.

He'll be posting again on Sunday at which point weather models such as the GFS will begin to stretch as far as the festival albeit only the tues & weds at that point.

Once the GFS has Glastonbury in it's sights then the rollercoaster can begin with charts being produced 4 times a day...

Excellent - I give it a week before we're all knee-deep in data we're all too scared to trust then.

Kinda, it's important to understand how weather forecasts work though

We knew there was rain about on that day and it was probably going to be in storms so we might get nothing, might get a shower or a dumping on. Turns out it was the latter, but a storm can be only 20miles across or less easily

That's why it's good to see both the most pessimistic and the most optimistic forecasts, then the spread in between gives you an idea of your chances

Folk get their knickers in a twist cos you can't get hour by hour accurate forecasts a week ahead - but you never will it's just the nature of the beast, but the picture/accuracy gets clearer all the time

Nice tolerance, Magma. I sure hope we meet up at Glastonbury. Just the sort of spirit that I was hoping to encounter, for my first visit to the farm.

Lol, sorry if you don't get it, really really sorry for you.

Have a lovely festival.

Peace

It does seem worryingly positive at the moment. It doesn't feel like it's the usual rollercoaster.

There's a nice squiffy bit of weather coming later next week, that'll put the cat amongst the pigeons for a bit don't worry

    • The Great Fete Festival (Sunday Only) Ocean Colour Scene day on Tickets For Good.
    • I was also at Ghost but seated. When they scanned my ticket's and they came up as seated they printed a small ticket with the seat number info.
    • I was standing for Ghost at O2 London last year where they put the phone in a pouch beforehand so I assume they're is a mechanism in place for people in seats.
    • Most likely not, keeping an eye on Tixel and Twickets might be the best option.
