Looking at The Courteeners subbing is kinda making me laugh. Especially when looking at the other two.

Yeah I knew The Courteeners subbing would stand out to people on here but these days they're always pushing subs, I don't think many predicted Bring Me The Horizon to do it this year, or Jake Bugg last year.

As much as people on here don't like them they are a pretty big draw these days. They've sold out Heaton Park and yeah, I know that's in their hometown, but they still managed to sell out an outdoor gig.

They promoted Bugg and BMTH to sub because they're up and coming and have/had perceived potential to headline one day - Courteeners don't have that. The outdoor show is a reduced capacity which is roughly the same as the arena show they sell out in Manchester every year.

BMTH aren't up and coming, they've been around since 2004 as a band, Bugg 2011 is up and coming. BMTH are getting a push because they've gone from screamo and brought it down a little slightly. I'd imagine most big BMTH fans aren't a fat of Drown. It's exactly the same as what Biffy did, been going for years, the period that got them to where they are now is when they went more mainstream from Puzzle onwards. Keeping on with Vertigo etc would not have got them a headline spot.

Bugg and BMTH should not be subbing regardless and I stand by, less care will be taken into a sub now as a headliner booking is £50 of the £70 now for a ticket. Any act with one arena under their belt and suitable will be looked at, in the past there was no chance. QOTSA are a bit different but they sound like one of the rare acts that always chose smaller gigs, doing an arena tour though at least shown the demand for them. Obviously with QOTSA I'm talking their sub slots and not their header, just making the point they probably could have done an arena tour before they did.

Dunno if I agree with that, Bring Me have been toning it down gradually, each album is a bit of a dramatic change. I highly doubt their change in sound from Drown has given them the possibility to sub.

I imagine they are subbing because they imagine big things is going to come of their next album. However I don't think thats the case, and I expect them to return 3rd down or headlining the NME very soon. I can't see them becoming outright headliners and I can't even see them headlining download next year anymore.

I didn't say 'new', I said 'up and coming'. They said themselves that the new album wasn't gonna have Drown nor sound like Drown "unless they were desperate".

You don't have to see it, you don't want it to be true, nor do I but it's pretty clear. I'll sell you a day ticket for £70 with £70/80 worth just in the top two?, because that makes sense for my sales. I'll sell you a day ticket for £100 with £70/70 in the top two giving you the need to justify more on the bill that we have paid for to book. There is clear logic to it. thetime nailed it a while ago, cheaper ticket, weaker lineup.

That's moving up the bill, that doesn't make them up and coming, that just means a band grows. And in fairness, up and coming is generally more a newer act to be fair.

Last year was just a joke as I've said with Macklemore and Bugg given subs but Vampire Weekend did comfortably have an arena tour under their belt, you might struggle to find that thing year. 15 years ago, economy was very different, acts didn't cost as much, the government has fucked our whole financial system in that time. I find find it hard you using that to justify anything with prices and booking etc. That's like saying you could pay £2 to stand in the end at a football ground years ago. The fact is, finance went to shit, it's not going to cost you £30 less to buy a ticket and get the same standard of billing that you might do in a general situation as it would £30 more. Considering Leeds never sells out, I'd say an increase in day tickets isn't goign to go down badly.
