I'm intrigued, is Foals newer stuff worth listening too?

I liked Antidotes and therefore thought there "one song" was Cassius... I remember trying to listen to the next album when it came out and not being keen, wonder if I should revisit it or not?

I asked 2 teenagers (18 and 14) what the thought of Foals today. "Is that one of your crap metal bands" was one answer and the other said "who?" I'll shut up now, there is nothing to be gained by making my point again. They aren't as popular as some of you think they are. I quite like them for the record.

Are you roaming the streets asking random teenagers?

This is far more indicative of you and the people you hang with than anything to do with Foals

That's not fair. I like both kinds of music, heavy AND metal! Actually I'd be ashamed to show my friends my record collection, it's pretty diverse and I've never lived the day down that Boney M came on my ipod shuffle on the way to a gig.

These two teenagers can't be very relevant to the R&L demographic if they've never heard of a band that played third from top there 2 years ago.

That's the point I'm trying to make DUH! This forum, the R/L one has a lot of love for them. In the greater world not many people seem to.

Is that because everyone connected to you is actually you?

*applause* Made me LOL that did.

Are you roaming the streets asking random teenagers?

Nope, I have a selection at home.

If I were to go round asking my fellow sixth formers who'd heard of Foals most would say they hardn't.

If I were to play them all My Number most would say they'd heard it & liked it.

This is in Manchester where they headlined parklife last year and no one I know who went to that appeared hyped about Foals before hand. But if they're headlining Parklife and it clearly wasn't a catastrophe then R&L's teenage demographic would probably enjoy it. A dance act on NME, a more niche indie band for FR and an established metal band for the Pit and you'd probably be alright.

They've had pretty high slots at almost all the UK festivals including bleeding headline slots at Bestival and Latitude so it's safe to say that promoters don't care about these shitty surveys taken of colleagues, friends and family of knowledge about a band. Arcade Fire have successfully headlined R+L and Glastonbury despite people still apparently not knowing who they are.

Just found this on the Glastonbury section too, which I can believe:

RE: Foals, I heard from someone close to them that they'd been offered R&L headline this year but umm'd and ahh'd about it for too long. I imagine this is because they knew the album wouldn't be out so it wouldn't make sense. Can see them getting the headline slot next time around, once the new album's out (last this year/ early next year I'd imagine)

Imagine Dragons new album is superb! It has a big and matured sound to it, imo.

Most bullshit you've ever written. This is a fact.

If you compare to a new headline status band like Biffy then Foals look pathetically weak. As I said previously "Foals don't exist off of this forum."

Well now yes, but it wasn't that long ago people would have laughed at the prospect of Biffy being able to headline festivals...

I'd tried to purge that scene from my memory.

It the last scene that was any good in Skins.

Inhaler is the best song they've ever made.

Factually Incorrect, Spanish Sahara.

This is kinda like Arctic Monkeys in 2014 whereby we all spoke about them headlining it for so long that everyone just kinda thought it was going to be them, same with Libertines this year, its a logical choice so we discuss it for so long it just goes as read that they'd be a headliner

    • Muse new album out soon , European tour announcement for Nov and Dec, no Spanish date and north American tour starts in July and in North America for all of July and August. So primavera and Glastonbury
    • Well he is on a rape charge, don't see that one as controversial.    Although Hakimi is in Morocco squad.
    • Electric Callboy just said they'll be touring here next year. I'm not sure there's a poster for it though. I'll look when I'm near some next.      He said we'll see you at Download at a gig before any of the band. Presumably he was trolling. They're in Austria at the moment and Germany tomorrow with a week's break and more shows in Germany. Whilst not impossible to come back here and then go over there again, it seems unlikely.
    • Thomas Partey, knocked back by Canadian immigration now.
    • I'm sure someone can update you on the clashfinder, and it will be pretty accurate by the time the festival comes around. It's a large flat-ish arena with main stage in the open air, no best side I'd say. Leadmill (3rd stage medium tent) is at the back of the main arena, T'Other (2nd stage big tent) 5 min walk round the corner. At full capacity walking around can take a bit more time though. I noticed that The Enemy are scheduled to not fully overlap with Wolf Alice, so you could catch part of their set too.   You can walk around anywhere with a beer, with most bars the usual mass market stuff, but one nice craft ale tent, back of the arena near the Leadmill stage. A main meal will set you back £10-15, but cheaper snacks also available. Expect a pint to be £7-8. Possibly a bit more this year as prices everywhere are increasing.   It's fairly easy to get to from the town centre using the tram, although can be busy at peak times / very busy at curfew. If you like a walk, it's approx 40 mins to Kelham Island (lots of indy venues) and probably an hour to the city, or catch an Uber. There will be loads of 'fringe' music events on around the city right through the weekend. Most are free. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the festival, and your stay in our city!
