Its a big day for efestivals tomorrow - so good luck Neil with the servers etc

I guess not only are you trying for a ticket for yourself, you are also trying to keep the servers and efests afloat

Do people think its better being in 'chat' or watching the chat topic for any updates like back doors / help needed etc?

Would be good to see some stats afterwards - eg how many people hit the pages vs a 'normal' Sunday morning :-)

One million per cent more traffic! Busiest day of the year, but every other Sunday morning, we're all stinky, sleeping and drunk in bed.

Last year I remember the site crashed a couple of times. It's that 8:30-8:55am period, comrades. All we have is each other.

I wasn't checking how many were on the site as much as I've done on other sales, but when I did check nearest the busiest point (tho the numbers were then on a clear downwards trend at that point) there were just under 6,000 using the site.

The previous recorded record is about 6,500 but wasn't broken yesterday, but I'm guessing it must have got pretty close to that.

The server set-up I have at the mo was put in place just after last year's sale, and isn't optimised for high traffic as well as it has been done previously, so that probably didn't help. When I have a bit of spare time I'll optimise things a little better, which will make a fair difference.

it depends what you mean by "locked out"?

The servers got busy at various points, and were giving users the "server busy, try again in a few minutes" message.

As far as i'm aware tho, everyone will have been getting a page, and getting a page fairly quickly (tho perhaps as long as 10 seconds at the worst point).

I didn't see anything of what i've seen before, of the load dropping right down but people still not able to get on - which has happened when the server has got too-overloaded in years gone by.

I got straight through every time I tried. Probably about 8.45am then around 9.30. Site was working exactly as normal for me.

I kept reaching the holding page telling me there was a great deal of traffic.

I didn't mind too much as it kept me focussed on trying to get tickets!

If i was in i'd have spent too much time looking for a link that may not have worked!

Yeah it was fine for me up to about 8.55 and then did not resolve a page other than "servers are busy" until after I got my tickets.

TBF I did not refresh too often as I was very busy refreshing on another site!

I couldn't get onto efestivals at all from 8.45, Got servers busy message, so just concentrated on getting tickets instead, felt a bit naked without the efesters gang by my side during T-day stresses (you guys are my year round virtual campfire buddies) but thankfully i got very lucky with securing some tickets eventually

If people would like to see a more-robust efests technical set-up, then that can only happen if there's the increase in company income for it to be afforded.

In the last few years the company income has dropped by around one third, and as a result i've had to cut back on what is spent on servers - tho actually, the set-up is still as robust as it was before I did that.

(the extra server capacity is necessary/utilised for only a few hours each year - so it's a big extra expense with almost no benefit, certainly no benefit to anything like the extent of the extra costs).

This is not me giving a hard luck story btw; it's simply me saying how it is. I can only pay for things if the money is available for those things/

If you'd like to help increase efestivals income then: buy tickets via here, buy stuff from amazon via here, book hotel rooms via here, and take notice of the adverts on here and click on those that interest you.

Thanks for your support to-date, and perhaps your extra support in the future. eFestivals will be here for as long as it's economically viable.

I didn't have any problems getting on the site until after the tickets had sold out which probably makes sense, everyone trying hard to get tickets and then once sold out coming on here to talk about it.

Neil have you looked into the costs of hosting on AWS I don't know if you own your own equipment and are just leasing rack space or if you are renting everything?
