Im into music like muse, coldplay, kasbain, arctic monekys, biffy, foo fighters etc and hard rock/heavy metal acts like metallica, ACDC with that type of music what do you recommend?

Maybe something like Reading is for you then but theres not a lot going on apart from the bands but I see that the Arctics are playing so if you're only interested in the lineup it could be for you but the overall festival didn't do it for me but a lot of people enjoy it.

Each to their own.

With those kind of acts it's unlikely a small festival will do it for you but those acts are often spread right across the major festivals and you'll definitely see some of those acts announced at places next year. If your friends aren't interested in going to Glastonbury you might be as well just continue checking eFests and seeing what acts are announced where for festivals and see if any interest you and your friends and they all sell pretty slowly nowadays so you'll have time to mull it over.

Go to Reading or Leeds, Leeds is the better of the 2 in my opinion as there's late night entertainment until like 6am because it's in a field in the middle of nowhere whereas Reading is in a kind of built up area so there is a curfew on music at a certain time so there's fuck all to do at night.

However just go to the one that's nearest to you it doesn't make much difference

Hello eldest300

Could I ask you a couple of questions?

(1) Are you from outside the UK?

(2) Have you been to a UK festival before?

Furthermore;

(3) What is your perfect Sunday?

(4) David Bowie, true or false?

I'm from Belfast so yes I'm from the uk

The only festivals I've been to is Belsonic - 2010,2011, 2012, 2014 (going twice this year) and tennants vital 2012

Furthermore;

(3) What is your perfect Sunday?

(4) David Bowie, true or false?

If you mean Bowie at Sunday then yes

Weird that you've managed to pick bands that could almost be a stereotypical Glastonbury line up. ;)

Like dentalplan says, although some of those names will probably pop up at a smaller festival or two you're really looking at the bigger ones for acts of that size. And if money is likely to be a problem you won't find the other big festivals substantially cheaper - in fact once you take in to account Glasto's policy on alcohol it could work out much cheaper.

On music choice alone Reading/Leeds is looking a good bet - if you have really ruled out Glastonbury.

Reading is a good festival regardless of what people say, only problem is it's demographic is sixth formers, uni students and those ages about 5 years above that.

If you go, you'l see a lot of fucked up kids. But it's fun, and it does get some great bands - also easier to organise than glasto.

Tl;dr: if you really wanna go glasto, go

If you're not sure, but want something with big bands - reading or T. Saw more older goers at T than I did at reading.

are you crazy that's much more R+L... glastonbury has only rarely got hard rocky acts on, and the OP's taste leans much more in that direction

hell just did guilfest and it had more rock/punk than glastonbury.

Thanks for answering. I don't know anything about the two festivals you mention, so cannot give a comparison. What I would say is that my first ever festival was Glastonbury. That initial attendance educated me on so so many levels. It was also the best fun that I had had up to that point in my life. In addition I really hadn't anticipated that I'd get a profound feeling of freedom. That freedom's a gift. If I were you I'd go to the festival and bathe in that freedom. There are other festivals, some good and some bad, but there's only one mother of them all in this country and beyond.

I agree, R/L has much more in the way of rock acts on as that's the festivals' focus. But most of the acts he mentioned have headlined Glasto in the last few years (and Biffy have been further down the bill). Perhaps I should have put 'stereotypical headliners'.

By fuck all, you mean burn Tents right? :P

If seeing a lot bands is important to you and you like the rockier side of mainstream acts, then you can't go far wrong with Reading/Leeds there isn't much else going on besides the bands and a comedy tent but it does its job adequately.

If i wasn't trying put you off Glastonbury for the sake of tickets, its more about everything else. If you want more variation than just standing in a field watching bands than they are not many others that come close. (Though slightly smaller ones but similar sort of more than just bands vibe would be Bestival, Latitude)

If you're not sure, but want something with big bands - reading or T. Saw more older goers at T than I did at reading.

T has an older crowd but there are more people pissing wheever they feel like it.

Plus a terrible lineup in recent years (Especially for this guys tastes)

If the thought of going to a place the size of a small town, which is built just to entertain you in many different ways (not just music) floats your boat, go to Glastonbury.

If you want a large field filled with a handful of stages with some big name bands playing, go to Reading/Leeds.

R & L is roughly what you think it will be, where as Glastonbury will blow your mind (in a good way).

Also, you will find a LOT of people on this forum that do Glastonbury solo and camp together etc, so don't be afraid to go on your own as you will be well looked after if need be.

If I can get someone to go to Glastonbury I think I'll go if not I will probably go to R & L
