Worth going?

I have registered this year and 2015 would be my first year but I am debating to go or not can anyone give me reasons to go to Glastonbury

Agreed. It's too big, miles away from any shops, they'll always be some terrible clash, very likely to be muddy. The main stages are too quiet, the little stages are too loud, not to mention there are too many of them. Loads of flags everywhere and people doing nitrous oxide.

Plus, it's not as good as it used to be. Don't go.

What reasons are there that aren't to do with how you personally feel? If you like festivals and want to go, you should try. You risk tent robberies at any festival, much the same way you risk being burgled by owning property. Patience is also a big factor as you likely won't know the lineup before you part with £200, while the rest of the major festivals will be almost fully announced.

I don't mind about the lineup Glastonbury usually gets a good limeup and your right right about the risks but out of all the festivals in the UK I probably would go to Glastonbury

You need to ask yourself what you would want from any festival, before concluding that Glastonbury is not for you and going somewhere else.

Wouldn't both mate, to many travellers and hippies lurking about. Not within easy reach of a Waitrose, which if you ever been to other places without a Waitrose just means terrible food and limited options for wine.

Try a smaller one and see if you like festivals.

It's the best festival however I'd advise going to something not as good first if you've never been to a festival before (T/V/reading or leeds) because if you go to Glastonbury all those other festivals will be utter shite compared to it.

Have you been to any other festivals?

Are you a complete newb to this - ever done camping even?

It is jumping in at the deep end - if you're entirely new to festies why not try one of the smaller successful ones first

I wouldn't recommend going to Leeds,V etc first you might be put off for life,I went to Reading years ago,all I can say thank God it was a day ticket.

My first festival was Glastonbury and I was totally blown away and yes you do compare it to other festies but now I treat it as the special one and enjoy the smaller festivals for what they are.

try and get to a festival this year but avoid the radio one roadshow types,they're just money making machines,search out the ones that are less corporate,they're generally much better.

Bit extreme. I've been going to Reading since 2010, went to my first Glastonbury last year then followed it up with Reading. Glastonbury is almost inexplainably incredible, yes, and it offers SO MUCH more than the others, but if you like the music Reading is still a cracking place for seeing bands.

Two of my top three gigs ever were at Reading last year, just two months after my first Glastonbury. Not exactly 'utter shite'. Get off your high horse.

Thanks for some of the advice another reason for not going is that I've asked friends to see if they would go and said they wouldn't and its hard to get people to go with and the cost of it I think I'll go to a smaller festival first could anyone recommend smaller festivals like lattitude?

You've not answered many questions though - could help people answer what you want if you let us know a bit about you

For a hardcore music lover who will dance all night and run around like a mad thing glastonbury is heaven

if you're an older type who's wanting a calmer experience then something like WOMAD might be the place to start. younger but new to festivals and worried by the size/scale of glasto then try Latitude or Guilfest. wanting something more like the old school festivals try Beautiful Days, wanting to stay in hotel try the london festivals etc....

There's lots of answers available here, we just need some data to work on

Agree with frostypaw,it all depends what you're into but Boomtowns good if you want party central,Bestival for one of the bigger ones but a pain and expensive to get to,Standon callings a nice little festival too and a cracking line up for such a small one,heard good things about Shambala and Greenman but the latters in the Brecon beacons so the weathers a bit risky,I'd say check out the lineups and then read about about what kind of festival they are.
