a sub spot this year wouldn't be detrimental, and it'd be a good platform to thrust themselves back into the public consciousness before they release an album they'll be hoping can push them up to headline status. I think it'd be a perfect move.

Agree entirely Think of Kasabian in 2009, felt like a headline set and before you know they're were headlining festivals left right and centre. Now I know Foals have headlined smaller festivals before. But a great sub performance at Glasto (Which I trust they'll do) and then all the doubt of them being major festival headliners should dissappear

aye i was pretty adamant they wouldn't ply this year but this is a very good point. only problem i have is lack of new material - have many acts come back two years after last playing with no new material and risen up the ranks like that? (assuming they're a Pyramid sub)

Yeah that's the main sticking point for me. Although I guess if they have been in the studio since Bestival last year they'll probably have a couple of new tracks they can throw in - would make sense with them playing quite a few festivals now.

- Sub Glasto playing a couple of new songs

- Release lead single not long after

- Release album Autumn-ish

- Headline R&L 2016

- Headline Glasto on their next album

Sorted ;)

Christ that was such a Matt42 post.

They are playing European festivals in July i'd say they look very likely to be one of those acts that only plays Glastonbury (but by their choice)

sub glasto this year, have about 1-2 new singles to play. Headline festivals (reading and T) next year. Written in the stars.

Changed your tune quickly

Foals are not that good at all tho. Last album was good, but there first album is generic indie tripe. Cassius is a terrible song

First album has some great songs on it. Two Steps Twice, Red Socks Pugie, Balloons (admittedly not hits) ... Plus they don't play Cassius any more.

Have you even listened to their first album, or just heard Cassius? Because Cassius is pretty much the only song that has a chorus on the entire thing, the rest of it is weird and angular, the most recent album is by far the most accessible thing they've done.

Disagree, foals have been on stunning form.

Their ally pally and bestival shows were some of the best live performances I've seen. They'd smash a sub slot no doubt

Ive heard it as friends used to play it often, but it wasnt for me. However i dont mind the latest album, as yea, its more accesible!

can't see them subbing this year.

those festivals just seem like a few quick money-makers on a quiet year in the studio.

wouldn't expect the album to be out until late this year, or early next.

sub Pyramid in 2016, headline R&L (or similar).

The album surely won't take that long if they've been working on it since September!

How does this seem for a Pyramid top 3 for each day...

Friday:

  • Foo Fighters
  • Frank Turner
  • George Ezra

Saturday

  • Kanye West
  • Foals
  • Pharell Williams

Sunday

  • Whoever the fuck this 3rd headliner is
  • Either Beck or Iggy Pop
  • Paloma Faith

frank turner too small too sub pyramid, pharrel bigger than foals

beck/iggy pop not big enough to sub pyramid

Foals will not be headlining Glastonbury any time soon. Ridiculous

Again I don't think anyone here is suggesting that. Plenty of speculating that if their next record does well, they smash a subheadline slot on the pyramid and continue the upward trend that their career has followed, then they're certainly in with a shout of headlining in the future.

At a time when new headliners are becoming hard to come by, I feel Foals' eventual ascendancy to heading major festivals is a matter of time (and a matter of quality new music).

    • That's the festival apart fay tickets in some form sold out.
    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.
