Luckily, booking an irrelevant act like Madonna will be balanced out by extreme, white hot relevance of Foo and the Fighters, a band so cutting edge that even looking at them will make your eyes bleed.

People so snobby on here, nothing wrong with foo fighters. They play there own music and write there own songs. but beacuse they happen to be popular people sem to be able to slag em off. and for the record im not a big foo fighters fan. Dave Grohl is a great musician .

I hate the thought of Madonna headlining. I'm not gonna make a big song and dance about it, and hopefully just go and see someone else on another stage (Or like last year just go to the naughty corner). I just feel she's so irrelevant, without her appearing at the Brits, her name wouldn't be banded about at all.

I've always struggled with this thing about music and "relevancy". Who defines how relevant an act are? And how many relevant acts have headlined recent years? Mumford, Kasabian?, arctic monkeys (though that kicked off their "relevance" again) Kanye certainly is....there's generally like one a year.

Yeah I mean it's not like she's ever been rumoured before is it...

Or that she's the best selling living artist...

It's probably for the best that Glastonbury limits it's headliners to 'current' & 'relevant' artists like the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder etc etc.

People are different right? I'm not into Foo Fighters or Madonna but that's just life.

I was reading something about Mozza a few years ago and he said something along these lines:

"Madonna is musical prostitution"

I tend to agree with him.

Frankly Mr Shankly AKA The Madonna Defence Force

Haha, not at all. People are entitled to enjoy whatever music they like. I understand why a lot of people would be put off by an artist like Madonna.

But, that doesn't change the facts & nor should it when the same people crying out about how irrelevant she is were lapping up the likes of the Stones & Springsteen.

Never sure why there's so much hate on newbie posts. These forum sites predominantly are for people to speculate and debate on people's wishes and the likelihood of bands appearing at festivals. Foals are at the level now where they could smash a set on the pyramid at least at sub-level, especially with a new album out soon. People are ignorant and blind if they genuinely think that Prince or Madonna are nailed-on headliners or that the line-up is out today. In reality none of us really have a clue and that's why it's so exciting.

On the flip side, the anti Madge snobbery is the same.

I'm going back to bed.

No hang on theres still the "what is pop music?" and "mosh pit" conversations to have yet.

    • Very quiet in here at the moment.....again.   I hate this time as other festivals start and we see who Sziget should've booked 🤣   The Cure knocking it out of the park once again at Primavera showed that they have fans of all ages and, even if it's felt they don't represent the direction Sziget is going in, they would've been a huge draw.   Ditto The XX, who I've never been a massive fan of tbh, but put me in my place at Primavera with a cracking set.
    • Ballots for BST and Roundhay dates on TfG
    • Yeah, I feel like people are really overlooking just how fantastic Simple Minds are. ABC have a classic 80s new wave album behind them as well.   That being said, yeah it's not worth travelling for. But it's a lineup I would be happy with if it were local to me
    • On the Wet Leg crowd - the opening day always has the worst crowd of the festival. A lot of locals show up purely because it's a cheap evening, often with not much interest in the acts performing, so, while the talking is an issue throughout the festival (and increasingly at gigs/fests everywhere) it's particularly rough on the Wednesday every year. I'll only bother next year if I really like the act playing.  The wristband is basically a souvenir these days, which I like, as I keep them. Also I guess for the festival it's kind of cheap advertising as people walk around the city with them on.
