Am I literally the only one who wouldn't give a toss about seeing prince? Purple rain thats all I know.....and I'm guessing it'd be same for a lot of people,....he's never been a hugely popular artist in the uk.....maybe when he was at his peak but even that was a long long time ago....baffling why so many think he'd be able to pull off a headline slot at any uk fest let alone glasto,

I have to say until the rumours last year and the super fandom from people on this board I just viewed prince as another washed up 80s pop star snd would certainly never have linked him with headline slots in modern times .....has he had some kind of transformation I'm not aware of? Lol

no you're not, I have absolutely no love for him at all and never have. Mediocre at best.

Neil's thinking is that she's a sub for Prince who could then be bumped up to headliner if Prince falls through (and would fit in with Emily's 'she's not headlining, but she could be' comment about her)

I get that, but he's attaching a lot to his new interpretation of that comment which was said several weeks ago. Surely he must have received something stronger than minor guesswork to do the switch? Otherwise it's changing the hole rumour page (slight over exaggeration)for some small incline from someone that prince might headline. Or am I reading all this wrong?

he does have more - he just hasn't shared what it is yet (and i'm not sure that he will). he's even admitted that it's a long stretch, hence why both Flo and Prince are still just rumours and nothing more. but at this time, with very little else, Prince looks like the most likely candidate.

Oh yeah each to their own....I was just genuinely surprised when I came onto these forums anyone still held prince in such high appeal,...I really did rank him as just another past it 80s star a one hit wonder even (that being purple rain obv).....I'll have to check out his more recent stuff anyone got any suggestions of stuff to youtube, albums he may play a lot of material from etc?

This FB page has a great selection of all types of his music https://www.facebook.com/pages/THE-INFLUENCE-OF-PRINCE/556080237798173?fref=ts

don't check out his recent stuff - it's largely terrible to mediocre. check out his huge back catalogue of fantastic songs from earlier in his career. the albums Purple Rain and Sign O The Times are widely considered his best. he generally plays pretty heavily from his hits (which he has a LOT of), and a few choice cuts of his more recent stuff (especially at festivals). he knows what the audience wants

First vid I saw surprised me.....the guitar playing I mean I really did think prince was simply another 80s pop star....Michael Jackson kind of stuff ...didn't know he could wail on a guitar like that.....maybe I might check the dude out. If he does play...depends what's annouced clash wise though

he's renowned for being one of the best living guitar players around. would slay most others going head to head

Surely he must have received something stronger than minor guesswork to do the switch?

If you care to notice, nothing of Prince's status has been updated, he's merely been put in the logical day and slot that he'd be performing in.

I have chosen to give Prince the day and slot above other acts, but I haven't given him a bigger likelihood of playing.

What was the reason for Taylor Swift put Back to a rumour?

do most people know him simply for purple rain? Yes? Well that's what I meant by that mate

You might not know much of his stuff but that is a ridiculous statement.

I've said it before but I believe if he's booked the set will be talked about years later in terms of Radiohead and Pulp. He would destroy that stage.

well yeah, most acts have a signature song. i'm sure there were a shitload of people last year who only knew Enter Sandman. Prince also happens to have a LOT of HUGE songs on top of that though - too many for me to even list. he'd nail a headline slot. undoubtedly would be one of the best the festival has seen. unmissable stuff

Totally. When I saw him at the O2, I didn't really know much more than his hits, but what a show. What a fucking show.

Just caught up since my last post. U r a player Neil.

I'm interpreting it (probably all wrong) as Neil had had some info that Florence is subbing Sunday and may be bumped up if the headliner doesn't come off. So prince being the biggest diva is most likely to pull out, or not commit straight away. But I don't know where something neil heard about Fleetwood Mac a while ago comes into this? Maybe that Fleetwood would only do the Sunday as headliners, but so would prince? And Glasto chose prince because he'd be exclusive but fleetwood wouldn't.

Pretty sure I'm just talking crap really

I've just read through the 10 or so pages I missed at a ridiculously hectic day at work, and my mind simply cannot fathom the lunacy, we have all gone completely bonkers

I'm going to go with it's none of Stone Roses, Prince, Swift or Florence, and leave it open to my minds every suggestion

Not saying he won't so calm your jets...just saying if your not a fan then you likely know purple rain and not much else, Chillout,

i guarantee you that most people who'd consider themselves in any way fans of music know Purple Rain, Kiss, I Would Die 4 U, When Doves Cry, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, I Wanna Be Your Lover, 1999, Let's Go Crazy... the list is endless.

    • I'm inclined to agree, but if GC sell out the dates they have in Nov, I'm not sure they'd settle for 3rd down is my feeling
