The Beeb will no doubt give even more coverage to the Beeb friendly bands/acts that did their big weekend thing.

That tends to be the way it works with them,. the old "You scratch my back " routine.

I find it useful to judge how acts like the big headliners I'm not bothered for went down when I get home. And the extra coverage of acts I saw on places like the Park and West Holts were great to relive last year.

Yeah, never mind all the skewed coverage of UKIP, the real evil of the BBC lies in all that extra coverage of a festival that we'll be at anyway. Wicked beyond belief.

If I remember correctly, last year's coverage cost the BBC about £7 million.

Didn't go last year, and found the coverage to be excellent, as always. Can't recall ever noticing the cameras when I was there in 2011.

In a strange way, I'll actually miss my traditional Friday night in with a takeaway and a few beers - watching Glasto from the moment I get home from work, into the early hours!

The BBC has done untold damage to the festival, one of the best recent festivals I have had was 2008 when people could still buy tickets a couple of weeks before. having a festival full of people who plan 9 months in advance (and yeah that includes me) doesn't a good festival make.

Of course I have no empirical proof of this so why don't we two years without the BBC? I reckon the second would be excellent. Of course we would never know unless its tried.

I care selfishly I suppose - because it will encourage even more people to apply for tickets.

The event is largely used as a corporate jolly by many BBC staff and presenters though.

I think the coverage of the bands is really good but some of the other things are a bit intrusive. Take the clip below for example, if I was in the temple half naked lobbing tomatoes about maybe I wouldn't want Jen Long coming in and filming me and sticking it up on line.

I've only just got round to watching last year's coverage on the Beeb, and it has to be said Jen Long is a very poor presenter! The bit where she's filling at Arcadia has got to be the cringe tv moment of last year. She makes Gemma Cairney look like Paxman.

As for the BBC coverage, it is pretty decent but I doubt it needs 300 people to produce that output. As it's a public sector organisation I'd guess that they give a load of jollies out to staff in lieu of performance-related pay or bonuses. I thought Channel 4 did a good job of it when they had it, too.

I think it may have been the coverage of Mandela's funeral, but the BBC took something like 3 times as many people to South Africa than Sky News, ITN etc

ITN has three half-hour bulletins a day on itv, another 60 minutes on Channel 4. Sky have one 24-hr channel & a syndicated radio news service.

BBC has three 30-min bulletins on BBC 1, 3 hrs of News-driven Breakfast TV, 45-minute Newsnight on 2, Andrew Marr on a Sunday, a 24-hr domestic News Channel, a commercially funded international 24-hr news channel, 6-hrs a day of radio news on R4, summaries on R1-6, World Service Radio is majority news.

For triple the staff, that's quite economical.

I like watching the footage but was a bit annoyed at how intrusive the camera at the Park is. If you were in certain parts you couldn't see the act on stage. As for the BBC itself like any large organisation you will get some wastefulness but I think they do a remarkably good job despite what the Tories would have you think.

Their website is fantastic. I love 6 music and their wildlife programming is sublime. Monkey Planet, Planet Earth etc may have cost a fortune to produce but they are so worth it.

I have worked in the backstage area more years than not and its like a Invasion of people who are from the BBC - you can tell who is who by their wristband

the BBC has their own exclusive Bar and there is a restaurant as well which is not open to the normal Guests/VIP's

I usually set the telly box to record, as it only tapes 2 channels at a time, it always ends up recording the stuff i didn't want to see.

I always end up watching more online.

Nah, you're right 99% of the time, but this is a rare instance of the phrase being used correctly! The footage is there for people who can't go, because of money, time, disability, etc.

It's a significant cultural event, and one that should be treated as such. That said, it's a bit worrying that covering it costs as much as running 6Music for a year, almost.

I'd rather see the coverage extended but the curation reduced, to be honest. Get more camera crews at more stages, and film them all day, and let people red button the bits they want to see, flicking between stages however they want. The need to have actual presenters on site would seem to be minimal.
