That Guardian article is total bollocks:

I'd argue that, in the grand scheme of things, 3-4mm of rain is an insignificant amount of water.

For comparison:

  • In 1997 78mm of rain fell in the few days before the festival
  • In 2005 50mm fell in 3 or 4 hours
  • In 2007 60mm fell in the wettest 24 hour period

I just googled how much there was at Leeds festival last year and it was 30mm on just the Friday night, so 4mm spread across 5 days won't be too bad

It's going to be much worse than 4mm isn't it :(

I reckon we had 20-30mm last year on the Thurs. It rained for 7-8 hours constant. It wasn't any trouble at all.

The Thursday was very bad last year!!! I remember being in the Park at around 8pm and it was getting very difficult to even get up the hill. I think it stopped around 10pm (give or take a few hours), then Friday morning a mexican wave of a cheer went round the site as the sun peeked from behind the clouds and it dried out very quickly. Never looked back after that :-)

I agree entirely. Been to every Glastonbury since 1994 and this was the worst one for me. In the other rainy years you could slosh around in your wellies but 2011 was just an ordeal to get anywhere or do anything.

Er, 97? I have never seen mud like there was in 97. Very, very hard going.

It was still raining at around 7am on the Friday morning - not heavy, but thick drizzle.

And by 10am it was fine.

Beeb just updated. Now only reporting "light showers" from Thursday.

Fuck this anyway. Time to get packing.

So in summary, we have established in theses 120+ pages using all expert weather knowledge that:

It might be sunny. It might be cloudy.

It might rain. It might be dry.

It might be windy. It might be calm.

It won't snow.

We're doing well!!

ha... i can only imagine whatever you say in Alan Partridge's voice.

Pubs in Bath worth going to - The Salamander and The Raven for a decent pint of cider and pub grub. Hall and Woodhouse has a roof terrace so if the sun is still shining head there.

Just on the corner of Queen Square all within staggering distance of each other. Enjoy.

I'm actually in the Salamander as I type drinking Barnstormer (Barnsey). Yes, all those Bath pub suggestions are excellent. Add Cour De Lion - smallest pub in Bath, ne perhaps the world...

I honestly can't remember it raining for that long on the Thursday last year - I could have sworn it was an hour or two at most! I remember trekking to meet my friend at a gate Thursday night and thinking there was a little bit of mud, but if that's what 8 hours sustained rain does to a dry ground, I'm feeling optimistic about this year's light showers!

Thursday last year was annoying because it was at a time when there were only a few acts on (and people still arriving) which made some places really busy and everyone a little grumpy.

But it was absolutely fine come midday on Friday.

That's my worry for this year - not really very hot... not much sun. Any mud there is may just stick around.

This will be my 9th Glastonbury and I honestly don't think I will ever see it as bad as it was on Brown Friday in 2005. That was bonkers. I remember getting woken up about 5am by the crazy rain and helping some guy camped behind me who had pitched his tent but didn't have any pegs.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
