:cheese:

we're 'even' then.. I was (partly) pulling yours too.

I only really like early Elvis, pre-army mainly. But that's an interesting comparison. I've never been mad about Elvis's version of that song.. well, I don't like the song much, by anyone.

Image-wise, don't you think Nick Cave borrows a heck of a lot from Elvis? As I've said before, who wrote the song isn't as important to me as the performance. A lot of Elvis's songs aren't really covers, as many of them were written FOR him (not that I think it's that important). But what he did, is hard to over-estimate, for me.

Maybe he's one that you don't 'get'? ;)

Everyone borrows from Elvis dont they?? He's the coolest man who has ever existed. I love him, and not just pre-army stuff.

Of course it doesnt impact my enjoyment of his records in anyway, but the fact he didnt write his own stuff will always mean I will have more respect for the likes of cave.

I'm sure Elvis, were he still alive, would be devastated to learn this.

This is why we will never agree, as I find the act of writing more impressive than the act of performing, and you think the opposite (and are wrong).

On the very rare occasion when you get the magic formula of someone who is an ace writer AND an ace performer, you find my favourite artists: cave, bowie etc

    • I agree but anyone under Rodrigo would be a sub in reality, that day would sell out in under an hour whoever is subbing, in which case Wolf Alice would make a lot of sense   The more unrealistic part of the scenario at this point is Rodrigo headlining
    • All you can say is...     If he couldn't convince nations that really would've benefitted from the short-term hit of an up-front £50mil payment by this time next year, what hope did he have?   Guess we'll now just have to monitor and see if this could derail Infantino's plans to be re-elected FIFA President next year.
    • Spider-Man: Brand New Day   Highlight was a bloke reacting to the post-credit scene by going "Holy f**k it's Tobey Maguire!" despite the scene having no reference to him at all. Which made my close-to-full screening of the film laugh a lot.   Film was pretty good. It was interesting as much as an exploration of the ramifications of the end of No Way Home and being about isolationism and male loneliness, which I thought it actually did quite well. Though I do ponder if I liked it as much as the other 3 Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Sadie Sink was good tbf, while I also liked Jon Bernthal as Punisher, enough that I might go watch his Disney+ shows.   Seem to have had a Marvel kick recently having also watched Thunderbolts and Shang-Chi, both of which I thought were pretty good.
    • Wolf Alice won't get headliner for Reading either, they will sub if they play, that is where their level has stopped I feel. Both TFG and Skyvip for the big shows this year was just a stretch too far. Every headliner this year is bigger than them too I'd say.   Agree with Capaldi I don't think Yungblud will be at Reading. I would guess Bludfest 3 or Download.
