The National are way bigger now than they were then. Filled out Ally Pally two nights in a row in November and they're headlining little festivals all over the place. That Sydney gig was huge too.

Other Stage headliners I think.

Wish I'd seen the betting thing earlier - never gambled before but it seemed worth a go!

I really don't know why you would think that, and I really like them. Nothing has changed for them in the last few years, they are as unknown now as they were 3 or 4 years ago. We like this music, but the vast majority of punters have still never heard of them. Their 'profile' hasn't changed at all in the last few years (or ever) in my opinion, and they would get a small crowd, especially if they played on the Pyramid (shudders at the thought)

I've 'discovered' them in the last couple of years. Can't even remember why but it suggests they are finding new fans.

How did TWFM do sales wise compared to say Boxer or Alligator? I think they get a lot more radio play these days, although most of my listening is 6Music so that may be a niche view...

The national got a tiny crowd at reading when I went, you could walk to the front barrier and mill about right onto the central middle barrier. I reckon the main stage was at about 15% capacity maximum. Couldn't have been many more than 15000 including everyone sat down. The national just aren't a festival band, unless it's a specialist festival. Dreary boring shit with some old man who tries to be edgy by being a pisshead, overrated, boring and overhyped. I'm pretty sure most festival goers don't care about them, they're one of the bands people on forums always think will do well then get pitiful crowds, like faith no more at reading

Gutted I spent all day on the forum at work yesterday and failed to see this thread. Won £100 on the lottery last week and would have had no hesitation putting it all in Kasabian at 6/1. Ah well.
