Lads you just need to point me to the best bars in Glezga. Pre and (especially) post gig.

Decent place to meet is always the Horseshoe Bar. 2mins walk from Central station. Always busy on a Saturday afternoon and good range / price. Famous for having Europes ? longest bar and Travis used to practice upstairs.

Straight across the lane from it ( and a bit to the left ) is a downstairs boozers that has a gin dance thing on a Saturday afternoon. Wee jazz group, snare drum, trombone, clarinet type stuff. Average age of band around 75 ! Great stuff. They also have pool tables in there but if you try rackin em during the dancing you`ll likely not get out.

If your starting early ( before 11 ) then the Iron Horse is about 10mins walk from Central. If you like a dram then go to the Pot Still. Pretty small but they have 100`s of whisky`s. A ladder behind the bar as they are all on shelves. Always a good friendly crowd in there. If you smoke and are in the city centre then either Sloanes if its raining or the Ark ( just off George Sq ) if it`s sunny. If there is sport on you want to watch then the Ark has Glasgow`s biggest tv screen.

If your staying out by Glasgow Green then go to the West Brewery. You can sit outside looking across the green. Lots of digs up Sauchiehall St so if your at that end a pint in Sleazys is a good shout. John Peel used to drink in there. Always music on and they make cracking burgers ( about £8 ). If your staying near Kelvingrove park then the West End is good and you can walk to the Hydro. The Lorne hotel is handy up that way and the pubs are at Ashton Lane. Bit more expensive than the city centre. Loads of Wetherspoons in the Centre. The Counting House on George Sq is always too busy. Probably better in Sir John Moore`s at the back of Central station. Afters you could maybe see whats on at the Arches and it`s got a decent bar in it for through the day. They do a " Buckfast Burger " in there, again for £8ish. If your walking to the Hydro from the centre you will pass McSorleys. Good music bar. They have 2 fellas on acoustic guitars between 5 & 7 and you get folk drinking in there that are heading along to the o2 so always quite busy. If you want to get out yir box before the gig then google " Glasgow Subway Crawl ".

Was at the Hydro a couple of weeks back. Much better than the Secc was sound wise plus decent set up with the toilets and bars. James off at 11pm and we had done piss jacket taxi and were drinking back in the centre by 11.45.

My apologies sir. Just noticed my multi-quote skills are sadly lacking ! My post about Glasgow boozers was also aimed in your direction. As I said, if you need any pointers with digs etc then feel free to give me a shout :)

I never saw it as anything else mate. Cheers, hotel booking will be after christmas though or i will be declared bankrupt.

Thought about calling in on my ex in laws in Livingstone and travelling through, can't see me being too welcome though lol

Hubby wanted to go to both as they're going to be different sets. They'll be great shows. I love U2 and I'm one of the few people in the world who doesn't think Bono is a tosser but there is no doubt he has a massive ego and the layout of the stage proper tickled me.

Sadly its now all utter guff i can't defend out of that weird band loyalty we used to have that's gone now due to modern output.

I'll fight me battles on musical-ideological (leftist / feminist) lines nowadays.

Those other days are dead.

As are U2.

Partly sadly.

Amusing that Bono has said current show can't be performed in Dublin, given the sheer volume of stuff in the tour about the city. Whole first half basically.

It cant only because of the stage and screen make up

But sure are they not going to be doing a handful of night down the Point at Xmas?

That was more or less nixed recently.. it was mentioned in the Tony Fenton interview before any plans were put in place - they've never been confirmed - and as recent reports suggest, the current stage / screen can't fit inside The 3 Arena.

Yeah but

U2 guitarist The Edge also said that playing the full show in Dublin wouldn’t make sense. “It would be a terrible venue for it. We won’t be able to bring this particular show to Dublin, but we’re definitely going to be doing Dublin. We just haven’t figured out how.”

So 3 gigs down the Point when they are home for Xmas will most likely happen

“There may be acoustic shows. We will play the (3Arena) but we can’t play the present show"

That would be great

A massive U2 gig is something we have all done a load of times.

An acoustic gig in Dublin could be very bloody special (unless Bonos voice is fecked)...........

Saw them do Every Breaking Wave a few times acoustically on the box and it is without doubt a far superior version to that on the album

didn't hear about this Dublin issue...just disappointing to read "oh we can't do the gig here because of size of show" or "Glastonbury was a problem with all the computers not being aligned, roadie knocking over something..." etc...you wish they could just show up with the joshua tree backdrop on a cheap cloth and get on with it for 2 hours....no issue with falling off stages, computers, etc....I wonder how they would deal with a Red Rocks gig in 2015 with a storm coming in like it did in June '83

My most disappointing Glastonbury-related news was still hearing about Bono's injury ruining that friday slot in 2010, which would have been perfect under the sun that evening. as luck would have it the one Glasto i've missed of past 5 was 2011...

anyone ever get into the album by the way? i really still can't stand it, and can't remember if i've really listened to it much since i gave it every effort to grow on me when it showed up on my phone. still, I'll be banking on going to perhaps 2 of their Madison Square Garden shows this summer, per ritual for a U2 tour

His voice sounds great at the moment to be fair.

Unfortunately, no. And seeing them on Jimmy Fallon is a reminder of how safe and nice and clean it all is. Very Coldplay. Even Keane-ish at times in its blandness.

Pity as a lot of the lyrics are great.

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
