my mate said something about this but i can't find any news on it.

edit: ah here it is, http://buggedoutweekender.net/?p=33

Wonder if it will make a big difference to the live shows

Not sure how i might feel about this. Part of me would be wondering if it is different, is it lacking something and if it isn't how much of their show really is live. The other part of me would just think, f**k it , there are pretty lights and chems tunes playing

of the times i've seen them, it could well have been 1 of them there for all i was aware, it's hard enough to see people on stage, let alone distinguish exactly what bits they're doing live, especially without the camera on them/overhead.

as long as there's Chems tunes and their usual great visuals, then it'll be a good show.

it won't make any difference to the live show, i think a lot of it is pre recorded - how can it not be really? they've been working with a new live video / art guy to make the show as good as ever, i think i've read!

i mean they probably trigger the songs starting and ending and how they sync with the light show but i don't reckon a right lot else to be honest.

Tom Rowlands has been doing some production and remixing on his own on Erol Alkan's Phantasy label which i presume was a precursor to the new CB's stuff. He is the more active one. TBH the one that isn't touring (ed) a right prick on twitter i had to stop following him lol.

I wouldn't say any of it was pre-recorded. My guess is each sound element/sample will be looped and assigned to a pad then they'd just trigger it when they need to. Gives them some freedom to tweak and suite for a live performance then.

Never seen the Chems but seen Prodigy and Orbital and Glasto so this will add to the list of dance legends seen at Glasto if they do play.

i agree about Ed on Twitter. I'm sure they are still working with the same art guy.

They will put hours into getting the live shows ready and of course they will have the clips ready for a show but they do manipulate them on the fly. So much work goes into live electronic music, it annoys me when people assume they just press play and stand about twiddling knobs and pushing faders for show.

The stuff Tom has released on Phantasy has been amazing, hopefully the new Chems stuff is along the same vein.

Speaking of Phantasy, hopefully Erol is back at Glasto this year, been very much missed the last couple.

I've stood up for electronic performances for years, argued very very hard that it's not just a bloke pushing a button, but it's really hard to defend stuff like this.

Exactly. For an act with a sound as big and as dense as The Chemical Brothers, of course some work is going to go in before the show, but that's like complaining that Arcade Fire didn't tune their instruments during their set.

I would imagine the live show is largely just a whole series of midi-triggers linked into Ableton? The audiovisual side of things will be all sorted long in advance but I would think the live audio part of it is just them hitting play on various different elements of the track - then with various helpful fx units they can manipulate each element as part of the 'performance'

I'm a huge fan of theirs to be honest and would absolutely love to see them playing in 2015.

What I'm getting at is that the same amount of time and practice will go into their show as say Arcade Fire but lots of people assume they just turn up and 'push the button' and don't do much else. They need to know their queues and musical knowledge just the same.

I've heard 'The musics coming through me' and 'nothing but pleasure', anything else you'd recommend?
