The amazing Michael Eavis

So, 2013, my Dad came to Glasto with me. My mum told him it was strictly a one off due to finances.

Anyhow, he's had a bit of a terrible year for various reasons, none more so than my granddad passing away. So me and my mum agreed to club together and get him a ticket as a surprise for Christmas. We got lucky and got our tickets.

I wrote to the Glasto main office to ask if the could send something on headed paper over explaining the surprise for us to give him come Christmas morning.

Well I didn't get my letter. Instead, I received a handwritten card from Michael Eavis (addressed to my dad of course) passing on his sympathies and saying he's looking forward to seeing him at the festival in 2014!

A wonderful token, and one I can't wait to give to my Dad! He'll be blown away!

Nice touch, thanks for sharing. Typical of the man, from what I hear.

On a side note, I can never understand why Michael hasn't been Knighted, for his services to British culture and global charity at least? I know there lots of people on these boards who may not necessarily see this as an honour as such (and I know I'm potentially provoking some anti-monarchy/establishment comments, which is not my intent so let's not have a huge debate about this) but in terms of recognition it is a special award. Maybe Michael himself has turned down the opportunity, which is his right, but I definitely think he should be recognised in the appropriate manner.

There are many who have received more, for doing less

Wonderful :) now all properly warm and fuzzy - I hope it goes down a storm and you and your dad have an awesome 2014 festival :D

THIS is what I wish people knew about the festival, not what goes out on the BBC. It's why we go

Shush, we need to keep this lovely sort of thing, plus the lady who got a ticket via the festy office quiet. Otherwise they'll all want to come.

Michael is a caring Christian man who has found himself being a real humble human running one of the most incredible events on the planet

.

Met him this year and told him the story of my then 8 year old son. Outside of the wateraid tent was the heady mix of Michael, Banksy and Prince Charles - see you tube clip of drug pusher and the prince.

Anyway my son was more pleased to meet Michael than Charles, so I told this tale to Michael and I swear you could see him welling up....

A Gentleman thoughout

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
