I've contacted a t shirt printing company that's 5 minutes away from me and am awaiting their response. I'll let you all know how it pans out. Looks like there might be some interest in these t shirts.

erm... you can't really go selling someone else's artwork. It's copyright theft.

Have you contacted Shangri-la, to ask is they'll make the image commercially available? They did some lovely prints of the similar 'Beleivis' poster a few years back.

Can you use an image for personal use?

I don't know where the legal lines are drawn (no pun intended) for that sort of thing.

In this instance where I know how to contact the artist, I'd personally think the right thing to do was to contact him about the use of his work.

Even if used for a not-profit act, using someone else's artwork or creation can still find you falling foul of the copyright laws (as the use can diminish the value of the artwork if it is poor quality or used in a manner which might draw negative associations), this is how George Lucas used to stop unofficial star wars stuff, at least.

I bet SL would have no problem, however, as long as they are asked.

  • 6 months later...

So, 2013, my Dad came to Glasto with me. My mum told him it was strictly a one off due to finances.

Anyhow, he's had a bit of a terrible year for various reasons, none more so than my granddad passing away. So me and my mum agreed to club together and get him a ticket as a surprise for Christmas. We got lucky and got our tickets.

I wrote to the Glasto main office to ask if the could send something on headed paper over explaining the surprise for us to give him come Christmas morning.

Well I didn't get my letter. Instead, I received a handwritten card from Michael Eavis (addressed to my dad of course) passing on his sympathies and saying he's looking forward to seeing him at the festival in 2014!

A wonderful token, and one I can't wait to give to my Dad! He'll be blown away!

Oh mate, it was amazing.

He came round mine on Christmas morning, I'd wrapped it up an a big box for him. At first the penny didn't drop, and when it did, there were tears!

He classes the card as his most prized possession. Really was an amazing way to break it to him, and all through the kindness of Mr E.

Needless to say, dad's excitement has built epicly ever since

in the 90's Michael Eavis and Jean would visit the back of our bar each year and some years they would still be chatting two hours later - sad that Jean died in 1999 - it was only in later years did I spot Emily but I don't know her well.
He is a interesting character and did mention many times about the people who would show up without a tent or sleeping bag as he just could not fathom them out at all.
Without a doubt he could have exploited Glastonbury for his own gain but he has stuck to his principals - there is very few festivals promoters who would do the same.

    • I’m struggling to stay awake for this Brazil / Morocco … that goal helps though 😀
    • I’m not Scottish but am going to try to do it. My plan is to try and get an hour sleep between games, put the alarm on and hope that’s enough to get me through!
    • Any Scots on here with any tips as to how they're going to try to stay up for the 2am match? If indeed that's the plan.
    • If it's over 30-35 degrees C, it's ok. But it does feel like people just want any opportunity to crowbar in any advert where possible.
