Could it be an electronic or even dance headliner now?

The only 'electronic' act I could see headlining is The Prodigy, because I don't think anyone else is big enough. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd say Skrillex at a massive push, he is absolutely massive worldwide. But I think he will sub first.

Daft Punk obviously could, but can't see them being booked. (but how fucking great would that be)

The Prodigy are the only real possibility in the near future I guess, especially given the release of their new album.

I think now they are a few, as you put it, "electronic" acts which could headline the NME tent or sub, but would need one or even two massively successful albums to step up to headline, i.e. Chase & Status, Pendulum, Skrillex and Disclosure.

Pendulum would be a decent sub. Hype up the crowd before the headliner.

A repeat day at from MK Bowl at R&L would go down brillliantly.

The Prodigy

Pendulum

Enter Shikari/Chase & Status

But maybe too dancey for a whole day. Add in bands like YM@6 & All Time Low etc to mix it up a bit for the day tickets.

If pendulum got back together *could* there "reunion hype" be big enough to lit them to being headliners??

I think they've left it just a bit too long. Still can't understand people getting confused between their old live sets & DJ sets.

As long an electronic act ticks the same boxes as other headliners then their shouldn't be an issue. However I can't think of one that combines decent sales across a number of albums with mass exposure in media outlets relevant to the target demographic (for example gets rotation on XFM) that signifies true crossover potential (and as soon as one does people start claiming that they aren't true electronic music anymore).

I'm a huge fan of both Pendulum and Knife Party, with the latter's set the highlight of my festival in 2013. However; I can't see Pendulum playing next year.

Rob Swire has mentioned on his Twitter many times how after Pendulum's hiatus much of their touring equipment has been sold on. Also, despite a new Pendulum album in the works, Rob and Gareth understandably seem to be more focused on their debut Knife Party album which is released this month, so personally I think it's far more likely we may see Knife Party headlining or subbing the NME tent in 2015.

I know 'patterns' at R&L are mostly tripe, but it also would coincide with the booking of a 'dance act' headlining the NME for a night, following Skrillex and Nero.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
