I can tell you that it wasn't Queen that killed Soni, they were the only thing they had going for them that year

Their day sold the most tickets, by a huge margin.

PMSL.

the people who really wanted to see queen would have done so on the day as you just said, however wouldn't have sold weekend tickets, because they aren't the festival types. which is why it ruined the fest for a couple years. they really needed acts to draw people in for a weekend.... not a singular day.

same goes for Kiss/fnm.... really not festival type bands.

but still lets say 5k day tickets sold by them compared to 1kish for each of the others.... still not gonna be the best thing going considering how much they possibly charged....

and the fact that they attempted to sell day tickets so early on smelled of desperation.

besides they sold out their gig that they put on instead. so they won anyway.

so lets recap on a rumour that was going round at the time it got cancelled, supposedly only 10k tickets sold.***

embarrassing by all 3 no matter what you think (if its anywhere near accurate).

*** or 5k total depending on what you believe.

regardless it was a bad idea to book them headliners for a fest.

but they probably had other issues as well, so lets cut them some slack

I've been so convinced that Flo will be at Glastonbury that I actually forgot there was a chance of her playing R&L :(

Don't worry as you'll probably get The Courteeners

If one more person seriously suggests the Black Keys will headline next year (co or not) I will abandon this forum as unsalvageable*

*I won't. Once you're in, there's no escape.

I just want the Black Keys to headline the main opposite Weezer on the NME so I won't feel bad about missing it

Don't you go to Glastonbury now? Or is it that you wanna see her at Glastonbury and you're afraid R+L will get her?

I'd like to go to both, and I'm not fussed if she headlines Glastonbury as there'll probably be something else on, but at Leeds I care more about the headliners being decent.

Also I think I'm still stuck feeling that R&L is my festival and hoping for it to have good lineups for some reason.

This. My friends and I are always saying we'll go somewhere else but still end up at R&L. I think its cos it was our first festival or something so we're sort of attached to it

I know that the line up for R&L probably won't disappoint me after the May announcement so I'm pretty set on going there next year but most of my friends are doing a lot of different things instead. I know some going to Glasto, a few that want to go to Beni and a few that want to go to Leeds (I know a girl that wants to do all three but that ain't going to happen) so I have a range of options but I want to do Leeds the most

    • Yeah.   Revisit in 2 weeks, then 👀
    • Even with the recent heavy showers it's too early to tell what site conditions would have been like.  The very hot spell would have certainly dried things up considerably, and rain since then has been equalled by a stiff breeze so, without the benefit of actually walking the site, I'd guess ground conditions at present are about perfect.   If we had a festival to look forward to I think the weather watchers would have been at the "all to play for" stage at present.
    • Hush cancelled with a similar event now taking place at EartH and Cate Le Bon doing her own show, maybe others have rearranged gigs?
    • Yeah I find it strange, if they were just a silly act then they wouldn't be headlining the 3rd stage. The likes of vengaboys yes but they aren't doing their own sizeable arena dates.  That looks very weak for what they could actually get, but GC aren't playing 3rd main stage with The 02 and the Coop arena and in a same slot that KSE are. MIW aren't carrying those two dates either, neither are Turnstile and Parkway Drive tickets didn't play out. You gotta do better than Ghost, Blink and Deftones though.    I think you are a bit even if that is not the intention. I'm genuinely shocked they booked them for the avalanche and I think it'll be rammed out of the tent. While ADTR will obviously get a lot too, many Download attendees will had the chance to see them at Slam Dunk. I think 90s fest getting Scooter was class and while there would have been some Download crossover, the Slam Dunk crossover given acts you get on the avalanche will be a different level.
