Mumfords - you doubters.

I detected a lot of 'hatred' for Mumfords as a headline booking on these boards over recent months.

2 years ago I 'predicted' to friends that they would headline within 2 glastos ie '13 or '14 and low and behold. They'd done their dues by Glasto and frankly were big enough.

So, I was right in the centre for their set (even though I was ambivalent before Glasto as to whether I would be at their set or elsewhere).

The crowd reception there was absolutely PHENOMENAL, and I cannot recall seeing so much 'shoulder climbing' for a headliner as I did here.

The crowd down there loved it. I though the set was great.

The festival cannot survive just on 'old crusties' as headliners and will need to continue to 'move with the kids'. We oldies (I'm 60+) don't own the festival and are certainly not the v. long term future of it - the 'kids' are.

A big up for the Mumfords set and for those of you who said they didn't deserve it

YA BOOO SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

They were absolutely amazing and one of my favourite ever performances at Glastonbury.

Much better than the Rolling Stones and Jagger's shameful touting for more people to buy tickets for their tour during the performance. He. should take a lesson in humility from the Mumford chaps who clearly played their hearts out.

Unfortunately people seem to love to hate them on here, not sure why.

I thought they were incredibly dull, and I was looking forward to them. Only got there for the start of I will wait then stayed for about 6 songs. It felt like unless you were in the front of the crowd then there was no atmosphere. Plus they played a couple of songs slower then normal, making singing along a pain. Definitely worst of the 3 headliners for me.

doubters? It was hardly triumphant was it?

I didn't see them but almost everyone I've spoken to/reviewers have said that a whole section of their set sent the crowd/TV audience to sleep (might have something to do with that 'non-existent back catalogue' thing...). Not exactly enough to dispel anyone that doubted their ability as headliners.

I'm not a fan but I fully thought they were a good choice for headliners based on their popularity and the fact that some of their bigger sing-a-long tunes could make for a great atmosphere/create some Glastonbury 'moments'. Having watched the TV footage I don't think they did a stunning job. Not bad, but not great either.

Decent performance (and I'm a 'doubter'!), but I just felt it was too soon. In other words, if they were playing before a headline act, it would have been the perfect slot.

As they said themselves, 'we've done nothing special to be here'.

Out of interest, anyone see Bobby Womack? Any good?

I agree, I was in the thick of it for Mumford and the atmosphere was amazing in the crowd. Guy next to me stood up on someone's hands and let off a flare, we all danced and sang our hearts out and you couldn't wipe off the smiles from our faces on the walk back. Job was definitely done.

They were fantastic and I wasn't going there expecting anything good or bad, my husband didn't want to really see them but didn't fancy seeing anything else so watched with me and he said they were brilliant! The audience were bouncing , fantastic and the encore was superb! Fair play to they they did come good in the end!

If something isn't broken then why fix it? Their music is their music - could you see Iron Maiden changing to disco as their second album? Can you see Bruce Springsteen changing the style of his next album from boring American rock to reggae?

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
