2014 Headliner predictions

I'm quite surprised by Depeche Mode but quite happy about it. I'm seeing them in November so it frees me up for something else if I fancy it. Equally would be really happy to see them on Pyramid too.

Fleetwood Mac too I'd give a bash. Need to bone up on my back catalogue though.

I think Prodigy are a good shout for Other. I'm a huge fan and have never seen them at Glastonbury. Hopefully they'll be up against Elbow so I don't miss anything :D

actually, I think R/L might do (tho perhaps not quite as early as next year).

Elbow and Festival Republic seem to have a pretty cosy relationship from where I'm sat (I don't know how it really is), and an offer from R/L is the thing I see as most likely to stop Elbow happening (*if* anything is going to stop it happening).

I'm inclined to think different, I reckon they may be one more year away. I think they are stick on's pretty much for T and not once in the last 3 times they've played T have they done Glasto the same year. You have to go back to 1996 for them to play T and Reading in the same year and 1997 for them to play Glasto and V in the same year I think. But if it happened, it's be ace

history shows (from Wireless) that DM would probably not sell enough at IoW for John to want to risk them headlining. Glasto is lucky enough to be able to work on a completely different basis.

There's actually a precedent for this too, with Muse. The first time they were announced as Glasto headliners to resounding sounds of "not big enough", the same year they were announced as sub-headliners to Dido for V festival.

(off the back of their Glasto success they actually ended up playing last at V ... with Dido's name still top of the posters).

Kasabian are so played out, the thought of them headlining yet ANOTHER festival bores me greatly.

It's weird that Mac/Elbow/Mode seems so predictable in a way, but thats purely due to the fact the rumours about those being around for so long. I can't say they wow me at all, but it's all personal preferences.

The Mac are a bigger deal than a few folk here are giving them credit for. Most folk in the UK grew up with a copy of Rumours somewhere in the house, but aren't sufficiently motivated fans to want to pay through the nose to see them live. Think they'll pull a big crowd. Not Stones big, but not far from it.

People saying there is something for everyone in those three. I make the average age to be 52. There's not really anything for young people*.

*yes lots of young people like older music too you know what I mean

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
