this is amazing. It's as if people forget - DAYS after the previous festival - that there are four other main stages with headliners.

Boo hoo, Elbow/Depeche Mode/Fleetwood Mac don't suit your personal tastes. Of course, they make total sense, will likely be recieved well and could all do a very good job. I reckon that's probably more important in the grand scheme of things than whether they aren't your cups of tea.

Weird....very weird set of headliners if they end up being the three....very middle aged.

From one angle I agree, but then again Elbow also work as a 'new' band - their bigger success has (as an example) come in the same years as Arctic Monkeys, and as a band that's not yet headlined a major festival they by-default become sort-of new.

I doubt Reading/V/TITP would risk Elbow

actually, I think R/L might do (tho perhaps not quite as early as next year).

Elbow and Festival Republic seem to have a pretty cosy relationship from where I'm sat (I don't know how it really is), and an offer from R/L is the thing I see as most likely to stop Elbow happening (*if* anything is going to stop it happening).

Of course but what I read was John didn't think they could top the bill so he wanted someone on after (can't remember who, on the IOW thread I think) and I just questioned why they would essentially sub IOW and headline the Glasto... and Coachella... apparently.

I'm quite surprised by Depeche Mode but quite happy about it. I'm seeing them in November so it frees me up for something else if I fancy it. Equally would be really happy to see them on Pyramid too.

Fleetwood Mac too I'd give a bash. Need to bone up on my back catalogue though.

I think Prodigy are a good shout for Other. I'm a huge fan and have never seen them at Glastonbury. Hopefully they'll be up against Elbow so I don't miss anything :D

Anyone know anything about the Kasabian rumours?

Bookies have them down as favourites.

New album next year (Out in February, start tour in march, will be on the big festival run starting May/June)

They said in 2011 that they've had discussions with Eavis about headlining "One of the next ones" and are up for it.

They haven't played since 2009, where they went down as one of the highlights of the weekend.

They're one of the biggest bands in Britan right now, up there with muse, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay.

Glastonbury is the only major UK Festival not headlined at all (V, IoW, T (twice), R&L)

I don't get why nothing's been said about them yet. I'm surprised they're not 2014's Arctic Monkeys, in the sense that everyone's just like "Yeah, they're definitely doing it."

history shows (from Wireless) that DM would probably not sell enough at IoW for John to want to risk them headlining. Glasto is lucky enough to be able to work on a completely different basis.

There's actually a precedent for this too, with Muse. The first time they were announced as Glasto headliners to resounding sounds of "not big enough", the same year they were announced as sub-headliners to Dido for V festival.

(off the back of their Glasto success they actually ended up playing last at V ... with Dido's name still top of the posters).

That'll do for me, probably see one of the three. I love Elbow but I've seen them enough times to be happy to see someone else if they came up against an interesting WH headliner. I'll definitely be there for the Mac though, Sunday would be preferable.

Also, judging from some quotes that have slipped through on here, my decision to block a multi-accounted attention seeker was a cracking move!!

Fair play about the bookies, but Kasabian are one of the tanks of modern British music.

Them, Muse, Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys are the biggest bands in Britain right now (Not counting legends such as The Stones, of course).

I don't see how the likes of Mumford and Sons, Elbow, etc could even be put ahead of Kasabian...

Kasabian have headlined every big festival going in the UK, subbed at ones all over the world, sold out 3 nights at the O2 that was in the middle of a sold out arena tour. It's not like they're a nothing band.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
