2014 1st headliner

Not long ago people were saying that A7X could be bumped up to headline if they had 2 big headliners alongside them to balance it out. Now we're looking at A7X with Aerosmith (their day didn't sell out last time despite day tickets being cheaper than a single ticket for their O2 show) & A.N Other headliner who seemingly wont be close to a first choice.

I've got a feeling R&L will be cracking next year.

In fairness, the Offspring/Lost Prophets & Audioslave thing was due to a bad case of bands pulling out but I know what you mean. I think this highlights that Download managed to have a couple of years of big headliners & big subs due to Sonisphere going and R&L having a few years focusing more on Indie/Pop as opposed to being a big draw for bands themselves.

With R&L seemingly happier to book Download-type bands again & the rumoured return of Soni in 2014 it looks like Copping is having to fight again.

I think R&L will be Pearl Jam, Arctics & either Prodigy or Sabbath with Soni getting Metallica's 'Through The Never' production.

In terms of Copping liking pop acts, he normally admits they wouldn't play Download. Someone asked him the other day about Haim playing Download and he replied with something along the lines of "That'd work actually, they're crazy". Saying that, I still don't think they'd play.

I see tickets are back on sale again tomorrow with a discount again for a limited time period, due to 'public demand' nothing to do with people aren't going to amazed with the line up so lets get them to book early then theyre fucked ha ha.

The whole struggling for the 3rd headliner makes you think I wonder who Rock AM Ring have next year in this case, must be none Download suitable bands, I can't see A7X headlining there, maybe Billy Talent are getting the push there but Download won't give it them, or maybe its someone like Foo Fighters but Download have missed out on them again...

In all fairness, the whole event is a fcukin good craic., whoever headlines.

I get three days a year of no car, no work in the morning, no wife, no kids, no rules, just drinking and arsing about from the time I regain consciousness to the time I collapse with some good like-minded company and some tidy background music.

I always treat Download as more of a party than concert, and I’m never disappointed.

(Ps Copping didn’t pay me to write this ;-> )

It's exactly what I said a while ago. A7X and Aerosmith are 2 headliners, they are seriously struggling to nail down the 3rd. From what I've heard, one of the bands they wanted dropped out and others are playing elsewhere. With it being October now I think it's slim pickings or pay way over the odds. It doesn't help that Reading/ Leeds are going for a more rock approach and Sonisphere is back on the scene.

RaR is absolutely fine, if what I've been told is correct, one of their headliners is Slipknot, not sure about the others.

Nova Rock and Hellfest apparently have Iron Maiden.

Of course that's 2 bands who won't be playing Download.

So who's R&L and sonisphere got if what you've been told is correct? Know any info on Werchter? I'm just interested to see what you've been told.

Very interesting!

If so download is up for a very very bad year...

Well I heard Download are in talks with Slipknot, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, ACDC, SOAD, Black Sabbath, RATM, Metallica, Van Halen, NIN, Placebo, Rammstein, MCR, The Prodigy, Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, Muse, Nickelback and Linkin Park so it's definitely going to be one of those I can tell you cause i have a source for reals!

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
