I recall a story that when Clapton and Pete Townsend first saw Hendrix they both discussed packing it is because they'd never be that good. Fortunately, they decided to think of him more as an inspiration,

I had a look on the internet and found this little bit about it...

There is no audio or video with it though

Hendrix jams with Cream

1 October 1966

In 1966 Eric Clapton was the undisputed king of rock guitar in Britain. That was until Hendrix turned up on the scene. Jimi had only been in England for a week, yet there was already talk of this amazing American guitarist who had been creating a storm in London's blues clubs.

In a particularly over confident gesture Hendrix asked if he could jam with Cream at their gig at Central London Polytechnic. Hendrix took the stage and tore through a version of 'Killing Floor' in double time. Cream soon regretted allowing him to join them. Hendrix's outrageous stage antics and dazzling guitar playing caused Clapton to leave the stage in a state of shock. He asked Chas Chandler afterwards "Is he always that f***ing good?"

Can highly recommend "Beware of Mr Baker". A fantastic documentary about a unique person and one of the greatest drummers (the greatest?) of all time. He lives drums. Everything else is secondary. Everything.

Brilliant where can u watch this?

So Eric Clapton is playing Glasgow and Leeds the weekend before Glastonbury. Do you think there is a chance he might turn up at Worthy Farm or not?

Ever since someone posted that racist rant of his, I just want to call him Eric Crapton and hope he never plays...

I doubt it.

Tho I've never asked Michael, I get the feeling from comments made by sidekicks of his that would have loved to have seen Clapton there that Michael might not be much of a fan.

Also, if he was I suspect that Clapton would have been a name to leave his lips more than once in recent years when he's been asked who he still wants to get to Glastonbury.

Clapton would go down great at 5pm on Sunday if he played all the hits.

Layla

White Room

Sunshine of Your Love

I Feel Free

Badge

Some of the Blues Breakers stuff

And he did a few acoustic sets in gigs last year. Nobody Knows When You're Down and Out, Love in Vain, Crossroad Blues, Cocaine......

Pity he'd play that awful Wonderful Tonight but the greatest British guitar player ever never playing the festival isn't on.

And his band are fantastic.

not so good tho if he did one of his racist rants, or even expressed his support for foxhunting. :P

Isn't Eavis vaguely supportive of fox hunting? I'm not sure, i jsut remeber an interview he did on it.

Clapton has clarified in several interviews that he is not a racist, he has several black friends, but that Enoch Powell wasn't necessarily wrong. So that's all sorted then!

I don't know for certain (and can't remember that interview), but I've long suspected he is. ;)

Over ten years ago, after they'd been that massive "countryside march", what was used for (some, if not all) staff tickets at the following festival were (I can't remember exactly what) some sort of ticket or flier for that march.

Thankfully this is a battle that the loonies have lost for eternity (and there's not so many of those, so this is worthy of big celebration :D). Even foxhunt supporting David Cameron knows that it's a battle he'd be insane to take on.

Smack influenced rants by people in their 20s.

Brian Ferry is pro fox hunting too (and a complete c**t with no redeeming features) but people want Roxy Music to play. And Roger Waters and The Who have already played.........

If we're qualifying people on beliefs, any beliefs, then its going to be a pretty thin lineup.

For a racist, Clapton has no issue playing with the same black band for years and years. Or doing albums with BB King. Or lots of other bluesmen.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to play. Just that we shoudl all remind people about what sort of person he is if we do.

Also, Clapton specifically did not go back on what he said about Enoch Powell in that Mojo interview he did around 6 years ago. So he can't blame the smack ( Unless he is still on it of course...)
