I hear you, and I too don't want to argue.

But of all the "white people stole the blues" arguments, can you think of anyone whiter? For many years I wrongly refused to acknowledge the value of blues. Sheer idiocy on my part, but it was wholly as a result of having Clapton's music foisted upon me through childhood.

I suppose it was the other way round for me. Got into Clapton because I loved "Journeyman", from there went back and found Cream, to Hendrix, to real blues and wouldn't have got there without "Bad Love"! Funny how different peoples musical journeys are, eh?!

Clapton turned me off blues, Nick Cave & Captain Beefheart forced me to pay attention. All it took were gravelly voices and songs about the devil to get me hooked. So, Howlin' Wolf.

If you fancy a long-winded naval-gazing sort of ramble, I wrote extensively about musical journeys. It's something that fascinates me.

I tied the whole thing up in a scathing criticism of Nick Hornby. Makes it an easier pill to swallow: http://www.ninetyeightytwo.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/dancing-to-architecture-part-2-gateways.html

I know I can just watch something else, but aren't there enough tedious old hasbeens booked already? Cream might have been good without that boring twat; as they were when Hendrix joined.

huh?

Er, yeah, Hendrix was never in Cream.

He, FAMOUSLY, guested with them, the set is fantastic. EC went off stage for a bit of a cry. BBC haul the tapes out every now and again, but it might be on YouTube.

I didn't know it was recorded. I've never heard anything from that set. Any examples?

I've only heard it on the radio and I'm accessing the forum on my phone so can't search properly, but I would be surprised if the whole set isn't posted somewhere. Time to move a dog off my lap and grab an iPad.

I'm a lifelong Hendrix fan. I have loads of live and studio unreleased stuff. I've never heard anything from that show. Wasn't it just a song or 2 anyway, not a full set?

Tbh it was on while I was gardening, only time I ever listen to the radio, so I wasn't paying much attention. I think a couple of songs, not a full set.

I can't speak for other people's ignorance, but try this.

errrr... that's 2 separate performances. One by Jimi, and one by Cream.

(what's the double/split screen all about...?)

Fair enough - I didn't watch it, I can't have sound on; I just suggested you try it.

Given the amount of flak I got over criticism of the BBC I would have thought that many of you munchkins actively listened to it. If I can stumble on something with my hour or so a year of hearing BBC radio I would have thought it was pretty well known - especially to a life-long Hendrix fan. I can assure you it does exist, but I'm not going to waste any more time searching for it for you; I've heard it and H made Cream sound good - which is impressive.

Bit ignorant to not check the clip and just go on the name isn't it? So you listen to the beeb for an hour a year (get you) and you stumbled upon this recording that Hendrix fans havent't heard of? We munchkins salute you, you're amazing.

considering you weren't paying much attention when you heard it, and first it was a whole set and then maybe a couple of songs, it's surprising you remembered anything about it at all

I listen to the BBC a lot, but I don't listen to every station all the time. If it existed, how come it's not available anywhere?

My ears did prick up when it came on. I can't say why it's not better known, being neither a Cream nor a Hendrix fan.

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
