2011 was my first Glastonbury, and I thought it was pretty hard going, weather wise (still had a great time though).

The torrential rain that greeted upon arriving at the site was certainly unlucky, and having to trawl through the mud, over hills and into ditches carrying too much of our stuff was just back-breaking. I remember thinking it looked like a scene from WW2 as people fell down in the mud, rolled down embankments and collapsed on broken trolleys. I'm sure at one point my boyfriend yelled at me through the rain "save your seeelllffff!!!" as he tripped and landed in the mud. I also witnessed one poor guy actually sobbing on his muddy pile of belongings as the rain poured down around him (no joke!).

It made the first day or too very wet overall as all our belongings were now damp, plus the extra rain on the Friday didn't help.

Then on the Sunday it went to the other extreme with 30deg sunshine just to finish everybody off. By that stage I'd had hardly any sleep, the onset of pneumonia and spent the day trying to find a tiny bit of shade to sleep in.

So I'd say, weather wise, it was pretty bad. Both of the extremes, wet and scorching hot, neither of which are very welcome at a festival.

Myself and Nal made the relatively short journey from Taj at the Pyramid to the JP on the Sat morning in 2005. Fellow efests members that was some SERIOUS mud. Took us about 20 minutes. In places it was nearly impassable.

I managed to catch all of Morrissey, Chase & Status and Primal Scream on 3 different stages without getting stuck at all. Even had time for a few rums at Cubana along the way. Once I'd accepted that it was going to rain all night I just didn't seem to care any more, being fairly shitfaced helped of course.

The 'mythical' shade is in any of the hundreds of tented venues around the site, including some major stages holding thousands, also all along the railway track area in the wooded areas.

For example, we spent the whole of one super-hot 2010 afternoon in the bourbon street bar/venue in the main market. Had a few cold bottles from the bar, watched some unsigned bands and had a proper good laugh.

Saturday 2011 I was following my friend and every step she took I had to help her pull her foot out the mud again, it was like walking in super glue and I fucking hated it. Took about an hour to get from Other back to Row Mead and I was utterly exhausted.

So, in summary then - you can't please all of the people all of the time, 2011 pleased a few of the people most of the time and a lot of the people some of the time. 2010 pleased more people more of the time and a few people only a small amount of time. If 2013 forecasts are correct it sounds like we should achieve the ultimate - pleasing all of the people all of the time!! Yay, that sounds like pretty perfect to me.

Latest Netweather charts are showing 23 degrees on Friday, 24 degrees on Saturday and 28 degrees on Sunday. That's lovely for the beach, but a bit too hot for a festival. Still, I'll take that over a wet one any day.

Bring hats and suncream everyone!! B)

Current GFS shows showers possible from the period Wednesday - Friday but the total being only about 7mm which is not much, especially as it's spread out over those 3 days.

Temperatures getting upto about 23-24C by Friday.

Weekend currently looking bone dry with temps of 25C on Saturday and 27C on Sunday. The GFS model often underestimates temps so we could be pushing 30C if that run comes off, which would make it hotter than 2010 for the last day.

Ill take those temps all the way to the bank!

2010 whilst beautiful weather was TOO hot, I remember I nearly passed out from beat exhaustion during F&TM and had to have water thrown over me by the GF and her dad!

    • Considering how popular of a booking Scooter have been I think they'd go down well
    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
    • Did you camp or go for a hotel? I looked into it briefly and seems easy enough to get back to Nuremberg.
    • Been last time in 2018 when the festival was happening in parque Bela vista. ls the new location good for such a big festival? What's the temperature in the evening near Tejo? Should we bring a raincoat or a jacket?
