crystal castles - bastille - marr is pretty neat, especially if marr close his set with a couple of smiths songs.

No doubt johnny marr playing slightly into the stones set is an aim to take a bit of the crowd, though, even if I weren't seeing johnny this year anyway, I'd still be at the stones. Proper glad I've got Saturday at Finsbury as I got a clash issue at Coachella that avoids me from seeing him there.

That was my initial thought, but - and someone may prove me totally wrong here - when was the last time he toured. Not as an extra member of the cribs or modest mouse, but playing his own and the smiths' stuff. He always seems to be too busy collaborating to tour solo.

This is his first solo record (unless you count Boomslang), this is now his project for the foreseeable future

I think we need to wait till the times are announced before worrying too much about who's going to be clashing with who. So many 'dodgy' placements on both the clashfinder and poster so it's best to wait!

Would really like to see both Marr and the Stones though, so it's a difficult 'un...

In favour of Marr, his crowd will be more "pure" so to speak, higher concentration of fans and folks passionate about seeing him, The Stones will attract a fair few going along who are completely clueless and wont be contributing to atmosphere.

It's also been announced that Marr will be the main support for The Stone Roses gigs at Finsbury Park in early June...so looks like I'll be able to catch him at that and watch something else when he's on at Glastonbury. :)

Fantastic news, that's potentially one less clash.

And I'd include myself in that demographic - from what I've heard of it it's hardly a world-beater.

The album is crap, everybody is there for the Smiths tunes.

And possibly this is just because at 10 years old, 1977 was the first album I ever bought, but Ash are fucking incredible. Saw them over Arcade Fire at Leeds 2010, I bet Arcade Fire were magnificent, but do I regret my choice? Not on your nelly.

Came on this thread to say I've given his album a few listens and think it's crap, then see you've all beat me to the punch!

For someone who has so much writing and playing talent, I can't believe how utterly bland and forgettable that collection of songs is. It's rare I listen to something that can't even hold my attention and stop my mind wandering but this did.

Don't think I'll bother at G.

TBH, if it wasn't Johnny Marr, I reckon people/critics would be roundly panning it as yet more indie landfill. Just shows what reputation can get you.

He's a fucking great guitarist, but I reckon he just doesn't have enough to say to write a record worth listening to, he needs a sick sick man like Issiah Brock or Morrissey or Ryan Jarman to give him some filth that he can apply his craft to, his problem is that he's too much of a well-rounded individual.

saw him Friday night in Brooklyn, second of his two sold out NYC shows, separate venues. i obviously chose the right night as I was treated to a mini-Smiths reunion w/ an Andy Rourke appearance!!!! He came on & did 'How Soon is Now' with him, Marr introducing him "30 years ago i started a band in Manchester w/ my best friend....", Wasn't a complete surprise as there were murmurs in crowd that Rourke was up in the side balcony watching earlier on, and I had heard that Rourke has lived in NY in recent years.

anyway, great set, 4 Smiths tunes, a really tight band. i havent' been a fan of the record much from various bits i've heard of it - and there only one or two dull spots during set - but he opened up w/ best track on the record, then went right into 'Stop Me if you think.....'

overall a tight performance and for me, well worth a second watch in the John Peel, so long as it isn't up against what I think will be a great final Costello/Screams/Stones trifecta on the Pyramid on Saturday

      Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
