Decent ales etc that come in cans

I don't recall ever saying it was like golden hen? Unless somebody's changed the thread title thought it was just about ale in cans...

just my confusion from what you posted. :)

Can only guess we don't share tastes - it would be dull if we all did - or suppose there's a faint chance it was a dodgy barrel... But I'd hope not if it was a proper beer fest.

It was canned stuff we were drinking - pedigree, directors, old speckled hen (perhaps another one or two, I forget) and fursty ferret ... for all of us and all our tastes, FF scored low.

But if it's your bag, it's your bag. :)

Actually, for all that I love FF on draft or in bottles, I've not cracked open a can - just saw them in Tescos the other day. So I'll have one tonight & report back...

Always possible they've c*cked up the canning process in some way, which would be a shame.

I don't think it takes any cock up, unless putting beer into a can is considered a cock-up by itself. All beers are affected by the can, but some sit better in a can than others do.

And to be fair to FF, I don't remember it tasting 'canny' particularly. But perhaps I just don't much like FF anyway - I can't remember ever having tried it on draught.

I thought golden hen tasted quite canny when I tried it last night, but even so I prefer it to darker beers in cans.

I discovered Black Sheep in cans at Sainsbury which is a fine brew (yet to try the canned version), it could be a local thing though as we are quite close to Masham? Not seen Fursty Ferret in cans, it is one of my favourite bottled ales so I shall have a look on my next (and final pre Glasto) shopping trip to Tesco on saturday*.

*Exciting innit? :locomotive:

I was a ticket for black sheep in the tinned ale section of a Morrisons on Saturday but the shelf above was empty, so I wasn't sure if they where cans or not.

This was in North Kent BTW, so likely it will be national.

Not sure how good a deal this actually is in reality (so do your own homework !) but just spotted Speckled Hen 8 x 440ml cans on the 3 for £22 offer @ Mr.Tesco as of today.

Other notables in the 3 for £22 deal: Fursty Feret, Tanglefoot and Old Golden Hen 6 x 500ml (bottles ?) and Thatchers Gold (cider) 10 x 440ml cans. Plus many of the usual somewhat more dubious quality beer/cider offer candidates.

Possible pre-Glasto beverage deals at Tesco, every little (might) help and all that :P

Also Tanglefoot 4 x 440ml cans for £4 at ASDA

Fine bit of thread archaeology here. I rather hoped this was a new four page thread on top canned ales.

Ah well.

Black Sheep again for me.

Well, it's a specific topic better discussed here than within a general booze thread. What was said last year is still true for this (apart from the specific deals). My main tipple will be Tribute but I'm looking at some craft beer too. FourPure and BrewDog come in cans, now Beavertown too.

Indeed: "holy thread resurrection batman"

I remember this thread fondly from last year and off the back of it took some Tanglefoot, Old Speckled Hen and Golden Hen.

All very good especially Tanglefoot, Golden Hen is also nice but at 4% you basically need to iv it to stand a chance of it working.

Golden Hen is good in cans - a ligher version of its speckled brother - and OK at room temperature. LAy them flat under your groundsheet, for that "colder than everything else" taste.

Round here ( MAnchester) Tesco sell it in fourpacks that are usually discounted in 3's to £10 or less. So £1 a can, or less.

I'll be taking one of the 5litre mini-barrels for each day from my local brewery (http://www.rebellionbeer.co.uk):

They also fit handily into my bergen side-pouches, zipped together for a day sack.

Marvellous stuff!

I went to Tesco today for all my provisions. I took advantage of these two offers:

8 cans of Fursty Ferret for £8.

20 cans of Speckled Hen for £18.

I spent approximately 1/3rd on booze. 1/3rd on food. And 1/3rd on hangover remedies.

Its good to get the balance just right i think.

ive been trying to find doombar in cans but no luck so far I dont think its avalible.........what is tanglefoot like though people? I prefer ales that arent so `bitter` ive seen tanglefoot in cans for quite a decent price but ive never tried it. ......currently searching for fursty ferret as well another favourite, anyone reccomend any canned ales that might taste like the ferret? tried hobgoblin the other day not for me at all

Doom Bar is not sold in cans (we got a 36 pint polypin, good if big and heavy!). Fursty Ferret is widely available in cans.
