Meaningless pop dross, the structure and composition of their songs could not possibly be more formulaic, they play their instruments only slightly better than amateurs, their lyrics could have been written (and probably were) by a 16 year old indie bedwetter, dreaming of how one day the whole world will see how cool they are. The lemmings who watch them aren't deluded, they're just simple for eating this shit up, same as most mainstream pop consumers, they enjoy the shows for the pretty lights and sing-along-bait choruses. They've got their time in the sun now, but in a few years they'll fall by the wayside, like most empty fads, the fickle public will move onto something shinier.

Mumford really don't help themselves by their fake image, but I realise everyone else is selling an image of themselves too.

(There's really not enough room for me to go into how utterly disgraceful Mumford and Coldplay are, but to be fair to Coldplay, they've done a hell of a lot for the festival, so I don't begrudge being elsewhere for an hour and a half every five years at Glastonbury.)

With regards to why isn't it "cool" to like them and Coldplay, has it ever been cool to like MOR Tesco pop rock?

Not everyone makes them out to be the next best thing though. Quite a lot of people seem to think they're shit!

They're not my favourite band or anything btw. I just don't get the hate. Same as Coldplay in that regard. They've sold millions of records, played to sell out crowds etc etc but it's really not cool to like them. Strange really.

They will be a cheap, popular booking. I'd actually rather see the festaival get them to headline rather than the stones. I reckon mumfords would appreciate it a lot more

Easy precious. I personally think they are shit, therefore I don't listen to them. I didn't say anything about anyone else's opinion, as I don't care. I'm not trying to stop anyone else listening to them nor does them having a big crowd affect my opinion. I'd be happy for them to headline as I like to see new acts given a shot at it, but I'd be a long way elsewhere

I didn't mean to sound precious, apologies if that was the case. I just find it a bit tiresome that whenever some bands get mentioned there's almost an involuntary reaction from some stating that they're shit and nobody has any right to an alternative view.

The point I was trying to make was that there are huge numbers of people who feel otherwise and regardless of what I, or you, think, their enjoyment is just as valid as your disdain.

And if anyone thinks that if they were to headline there would be anything other than a huge Pyramid field crowd having a fantastic time, I think they're the ones who are deluded.

Love them or hate them, they are perfect for the current Glastonbury demographic (insert different argument about current demographic here!)

they'd definitely get a massive crowd, there's no denying that, and as has been said it'd be a wasted opportunity for Glasto if they haven't got them this year, but i'd be elsewhere so them playing or not playing doesn't affect me one bit

Is there such a thing as a Mumford demographic? Honest question - with most bands you can kind of pigeon hole them to a degree and get some idea of who might like them based on what they sound like. I dont get this with Mumford - whenever I listen to them I wonder who might possibly get off on them as it sounds so insipid.
