Yeah, I was more meaning the fact people say green day have gone shit etc.....but blink in my book were always just a skid mark from green days undies. Green day are rock giants compared to blink who had 1 or 2 well known songs and hadn't released anything half decent in about 10 years.

Plus the fact green day are notoriously better at performing live, and can ya know....actually sing their songs?

On second thoughts, and with the benefit of having researched some of the bands I hadn't heard of before, the lineup does not seem as bad as I thought it was.

I think ill end up watching these bands, depending upon clashes:

FRIDAY

  • Arcane Roots
  • Editors
  • Tribes
  • The Family Rain (These three ^^ seem like they'll clash with eachother :( )
  • Twentyone Pilots (maybe)
  • Knife Party
  • NIN
  • BIFFY

SATURDAY

  • Kodaline
  • Deep Valley
  • Findlay
  • Peace
  • Frank Turner
  • Frightened Rabbit
  • Bastille
  • Kate Nash
  • Alkaline Trio
  • SOAD (for a bit)
  • GreenDay

SUNDAY

  • To kill a king
  • Lower Than Atlantis
  • Balthazar
  • Skaters
  • Redlight
  • Swim Deep
  • The 1975
  • Palma Violets
  • Flux Pavillion
  • Johnny Marr
  • Foals
  • Chase and Status
  • Eminem

Overall, that many bands that I want to see really is worth the weekend ticket I have already purchased :D The FR stage has been kind to me

Yeah.....who cares about that haha??

On another note I was thinking about this green day bashing and wonder what people's views are on the fact blink 182 headlined 3 years ago is......baring in mind they have less well known songs and are terrible live?

I worked it out and if they swapped a lot of things around the line-up wouldn't be as bad at all; Willy Moon and Pure Love opening Main Stage would've been great and Johnny Marr, Shikari Sound System and AlunaGeorge would've actually been a half-decent set of FR headliners.

AlunaGeorge headlining the FR? lol

They're exactly the type of act that should playing low NNE/mid FR. There are far too many unestablished acts taking up high slots on all the stages (except the main). Okay, it's happened before but not on this scale only really with acts that have so much hype they NEED to be that high (and there's a fair few cases were it hasn't ended well...)

These acts need to be playing lower down so they can develop & establish themselves, and so that punters don't have high, unrealistic expectations of them.

That's the main problem with the lineup.

I definitely agree with you, but at least people have an interest in AlunaGeorge and might want to see a headline set of theirs which I doubt with Crystal Fighters and Spector. AlunaGeorge aren't the best option we should have for FR headliner but out of the acts announced I think it'd work better.

This is what I think would've worked a lot better:

Friday

Main Stage: Green Day // System of a Down // Deftones // Frank Turner // Bring Me the Horizon // Skindred // Lower Than Atlantis // While She Sleeps

NME/Radio 1 Stage: Skrillex // A$AP Rocky // Tame Impala // Imagine Dragons // Lucy Rose // Palma Violets // Theme Park // CHVRCHES // The Strypes

BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage: Sub Focus // Flux Pavilion // Hadouken! // Iggy Azalea // Friction // Clean Bandit // Is Tropical // Bondax // Robert Delong

Rock Stage: Tomahawk // Funeral for a Friend // And So I Watch You from Afar // Mallory Knox // Crossfaith // Arcane Roots // Bury Tomorrow

Festival Republic Stage: Johnny Marr // British Sea Power // Surfer Blood // Tim Burgess // Splashh // Swim Deep // MS MR // Charli XCX // Half Moon Run // Findlay // MMX

Saturday

Main Stage: Eminem // Chase & Status // Foals // Editors // The Lumineers // Twin Atlantic // Spector // Willy Moon

NME/Radio 1 Stage: Alt-J // Jake Bugg // Azealia Banks // City and Colour // HAIM // The 1975 // Kodaline // Alex Clare // Fidlar

BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage: Magnetic Man // A-Trak // Modestep // Redlight // Jagwar Ma // MØ // Big Black Delta // Night Works

Lock Up Stage: Alkaline Trio // Sick of It All // The Bronx // King Prawn

Festival Republic Stage: Shikari Sound System // Gallows // The Jim Jones Revue // Merchandise // California X // Twenty One Pilots // The Family Rain // Heaven's Basement // Skaters // Balthazar // To Kill a King

Sunday

Main Stage: Biffy Clyro // Nine Inch Nails // Fall Out Boy // White Lies // Brand New // Tribes // The Blackout // Pure Love

NME/Radio 1 Stage: Phoenix // Bastille // Major Lazer // Disclosure // Frightened Rabbit // Peace // We Are the In Crowd // Temples // Deap Vally

BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage: Knife Party // Baauer // Dillon Francis // Crystal Fighters // Fred V & Grafix // Jacob Plant feat. Majestic

Lock Up Stage: New Found Glory // The Living End // RX Bandits // Quicksand // The Computers // Cerebral Ballzy

Festival Republic Stage: AlunaGeorge // Fenech-Soler // Kate Nash // Parquet Courts // Chapel Club // Drenge

Still not fantastic, but I think it looks stronger throughout the day.

Annoying as it is, Spector have a big fanbase and will get a decent crowd.

I think it will be interesting to comment on the lineup after August. Especially if a lot of bands put in incredible performances a'la Biffy, Green Day, NIN, SOAD, but also a lot lower down the lineup.
