It's Crazy, with people suggesting that The Prodigy and NIN could be subs. Imagine if both of them were subs that mean the subs alone could be the headline acts for a festival like Download. a top 3 lineup such as:

Greenday

SOAD

Deftones

Eminem

The Prodigy

Bloc Party

Biffy Clyro

NIN

Fall Out Boy

Which isn't entirley to my taste woudl be an insanley strong line up.

Are you saying biffy, system, and deftones don't fit in the same category as you're quoted bands? I think they do. Also, as I just said, eminem is the alternative to indie headliner I'd assume this year. I'm sure there'll be a indie filled day either behind him or biffy

I'm saying that NIN, SOAD and Deftones are all probably more niche and less accessible than Metallica, slipknot, tenacious d, RATM and queens of the stoneage especially now when the charts are so far away from that of the early to mid 00's when most of those mentioned bands were in the mainstream.

I don't know but it may be a single time that know one even really knows about. Nothing about the statement said they had played a festival years back, just they had played.

Also going back to The Prodigy's cryptic youtube thing.

They played V in 97, 05, 08, 10. I can't see them not playing V next year, 4 years will be a long time for them away haha. V show as pointed out the other day also = T show.

They played R&L and Glasto just once I think being 2009. Also played V and Glasto once years ago but I think they'll hit T Radio 1, Glasto Other and V fest 4music next year.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Eminem is relevant for a lot of youngsters these days - his new albums singles were played everywhere by boys, girls, and everything in between. And he is not heavy. As a rock fan, I can guarantee there is no connection between rock, heavy, and eminem. The killers were a great headliner in 08 yes, but don't forget they had just headlined Glastonbury which people argued wasn't deserved, and then played reading the year after. Eminem is an established headliner who hasn't played the uk for a year at least

This was in relation to me saying it has less chance selling out if those were all in the top 9, with the mainstream popularity seemingly with the more poppy acts.

I think all are great bookings from a music point of view, I just think commercially they won't be that successful at a modern day festival. Not because they aren't great bands, because SOAD and deftones along with biffy are the reason I'm getting a ticket this week, but because I think they will put a lot of the casuals off.

Eminem was at his height of popularity right in the middle of the era where your alternative music was all over the charts and the music channels and there was a huge amount of crossover between acts like limp bizkit, Linkin park, papa roach, blink 183. In the early 00's he headlined the festival right in the middle of when the alternative rock / new metal scene was at its height of popularity. There is a huge amount of crossover between him and the acts of that era like SOAD, slipknot, Linkin park, limp bizkit, sum 41, blink 182 etc.

Maybe in terms of timing in popularity, but not in a musical sense. You're suggesting that fans of said bands liked him as well. That's not necessarily true, and especially now is he completely different and more pop then "edgy". But he's still massively popular these days, even if he isn't at the "height".

Eminem was massively popular with fans of those bands though, he toured, played or collaborated with artists from those genres. He is more of a 'pop' act now, but he is no where near as popular with the mainstream or ad relevant as the killers were in 08, that and the fact the others are more niche and probably less relevant in terms of mainstream appeal leads me to believe that it won't sell very well.

    • Nothing But Thieves was £73 as well. Felt for a while like arena gigs are getting to extreme levels but this is adding to that. I did think there might be more inflation thanks to the latest rise in energy costs and here we are again.
    • Some of GB news headlines are pretty close to it
    • Tbf when they had the Miami Grand Prix F1 race a few weeks ago and there was fear of rain, they said Florida being so humid meant it would drain exceptionally quickly. And tick given it looked basically waterlogged at 8 UK time but by the new start time it was fine.    The nature of the beast though is that it feels like there is a lot of scope for electrical storm induced delays. Last year's Club World Cup and even just open air gigs or festivals in America seem to get affected by this a lot.
    • The Day Today was exceptional and I like how this clip still gets resonance all these years down the line.    Shame to do a rerun now that it would probably be 5 times as expensive just on the rights to the clips alone.
