With the 3-day dance stage I think its clear they're trying to minimse the impact that genre has on the main stage, so I can't see the likes of Chase & Status/Skrillex/Example getting high main stage slots anyway.

Its still been just selling out hasn't it? Just last minute. Either way, 120,000 paying 200 quid each for ticket alone (nevermind car park, merch, etc) would get 24 million. Baring in mind they pay headliners around a million each, thats still 21 million to play with.

I don't think that's true at all. If R&L wants to truly attract crowds from that type of genre, some third rate acts that would chart mid billing at a festival specific to that genre isn't going to work.

It's like Creamfields announcing a new stage with Enter Shikari headlining and that being enough to take in R&L fans.

Pretty different. (Casual) Dance fans go anyway- you have a dance stage & a few dance acts on the NME/FR stages. They're trying to bring it in more, but minimise the impact on the 'regulars' who are still the primary target audience.

it was based on their new attitude to live shows. As a band who do big ass arena shows that means only one thing

Ahh good, I'm clinging on to any hope that they're not opposite Biffy, as if the 3rd headliner ends up being Green Day they'll be the only headliner I want to see, and I'm desperate to see NIN.

oh yeah thats not for lineup alone granted. but still, they get sponsored a shit loads, get more money from merch etc, get a percentage of all food and beer sold - blah blah. they make a shit load. they spend a shit load. but they definitely have been making healthy earnings over the last 7/8 years, and I'm sure they can afford it.

They're in Germany a week before, they've got to be at R&L!
