Daglishs clearly better alright. Not massively mind you at the time of him writing the article. Is now though of course.

What time is the Evra/Suarez announcement today? Bored of it now. Just want it over and get on with football.

Of course, it could also be said, if and when standing is re-introduced, the question of away allocations, and capacity in general will be less of a problem as all grounds that re-introduce standing will have bigger capacities...

Like I said if and when...

the momentum is building - there is no logical reason why it isn't allowed in English league football, we'll get back there one day.

problem is, there's more than one kind of logic.

First there's the elf & safety logic, which may or may not contain logic.

And then there's the logic of the clubs, councils, policemen and politicians, whose logical objection to the possibility of being thought of as having blood on their hands might get to outweigh any logic around the fact that us humans have been successfully standing up for millennia, and most of that time without too much trouble caused because of it.

My opinion is that is not acceptable for players to use cultural differences as an excuse for behaviour. If you move to a country you have to be willing to except the cultural differences in the country which you move and act accordingly. It should be up to the clubs to educate players about this.

This punishment however will be a farce if as I expect terry ends up getting no suspension at all.

Suarez: "Today is a very difficult and painful day for both me and my family. Thanks for all the support, I'll keep working!"

Liverpool: "We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play. It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act."

Have the FA got it wrong?

will never happen, imho - the authorities like to know they can identify you by your seat number, a random crowd makes big brother nervous. im especially surprised in scotland due to the incredible bigotry and sectarianism on display - identifying culprits will be much more difficult if the people arent stationary.

The Hi rail seat system is the one being proposed, it's used in the majority of Bundasliga stadium that allow standing. Essentially there are still seats, that can be configured as seats, or locked up to allow standing. The seats are attached to a hi rail behind and linked to the seats either side of it, which then forms a rail at about waist height for those standing in the row behind.

This means there is no possibility of running up and down terraces like in the old days, and everybody has their allocated space to stand just like now with seating. The hi rail is actually higher than the current guidelines are for barriers on terraces for other sports such as rugby.

Proposal is for every fan to have a bar coded ticket - a system virtually all top flight clubs use already - that will only give access to a specific block, not a whole stand.

That statement surely didn't come from the club??

This bit made me laugh

"We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult."

since when is there a charge for insulting someone "in the most objectionable terms"

What has disappointed me in this case is Liverpool and man utd fans basing opinions purely on club loyalty, its clear if the situation had been reversed many would have complete opposite opinions.

As for whether the punishment is too harsh, there have been times I have felt gerrard has had very lenient treatment by the fa, so an element of swings and roundabouts. The punishment seems about right for a guilty verdict, in the past the fa have bottled it, a token 1 or 2 match ban isn't really a punishment in today rotation game.

If Suarez had been let off, I worry next time Joe bloggs from London screamed racist abuse they would use local culture as an excuse. To me the Suarez punishment is a good deterrent as long as its consistently followed

    • What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.
    • Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......
    • I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
