I just read the Van Halen article and this made my day :) Always wanted to see Van Halen but have never had the chance if they did decide to book them then surely it would be a bit of a struggle if they ended up cancelling their dates. Like they tend to do alot.

I think that rule normally follows, but personally I think that if noel is playing he's going to demand a sub/high slot

I think subbing the pyramid would be perfect for him, good crowd and somewhere confutable.

Plus I don't think he's THAT similar to arctic monkeys.

Don't know if this has already been covered further back in this thread - but in the Stones thread there's some guys who were at a Q&A with ME last night and quoted him as saying:

"Al he's got his back up band ready to go if this years headliner does not come though. Was pressed a few times from the interviewer but gave nothing away. Said he was told by His daughter to not speak about headliners. "

Not much there - other than "back up band". So, assuming we're still talking about the Stones, it would be Mumford, or Pulp or Radiohead rather than Kanye, or Dizzee, or Florence waiting in the wings.

Someone who should know what's what is saying that Mumfords are headlining this year.

However, he's not got a 3rd headliner at all, which is odd - cos I'd very much expect him to be saying Arctics. So I'm not sure how much faith I can have in the Mumfords thing.

So are you saying your contact is implying it's (in no particular order) Mumford, Stones, AN Other (when he should be saying Arctics?)

yeah.

But he'd only be right saying Arctics if they are actually playing of course. While I think they very probably are, I'm still not certain.

I've wondered for a while if Mumfords might be set to play before the Stones* (and Michael has supposedly said he has a back-up in place if the stones don't play after all), but then I'd have thought they might have been switched to Sunday when Fleetwood Mac said they couldn't play after all.

(* that would be as a repellent :P ... it would stop the crowd building up too much in advance)

So anyway, I'm none the wiser really on 2013.... which makes it so very odd that I know all three acts that Michael has lined up for 2014.

All the talk of the Arctic Monkeys headlining, is there any possibility they may be lower down the bill or headlining Other?

When they headlined in 07, they were off the back of 2 platinum selling albums. Since then, they have has 2 No 1 albums, but not platinum, and haven't had a Top 20 hit for 4 years. Maybe their star is burning out and these are the back-ups for headliners if needed?

    • On the whole then, yay or nay...I've had a look on festivals united and there's people who seem converted by Rock Im Park, I can imagine it might be different if it was a washout as RaR is tarmac.   The hotel side would be more to convince the non campers if it's an option. On my first visit to rock am ring we were shuttled into the area where you could stick the car next to the tent which was fantastic as it meant zero lugging of camping gear.
    • An interesting thing this. Having seem them several times (some of their gigs veer into back catalogue niche territoty), I partly agree they arent Pyramid material (theough modern defeinition of 'bangers' although I could see them headlinging the Other stage) I can't think of another festival in the world that they couldn't headline - Reading, IoW, BST, Rock Wercheter, Roskilde, etc etc.
    • Ohhh it’s very, very good.
    • I'm sure you like silly music too but is it because it's not a Download traditional type act it gets looked down on? Rock am Ring booked them, and they sell every year so don't actually need to   Andy going and being replaced is the best thing that could have happened to Download, someone fresh to mix it up a bit rather than just a complete rotation. The only reason Andy booked ST in ti headline too was because he loves them and he was going on to manage them. Nah, Andy booked FOB in a year where over 20 acts were asked, I'll guarantee if they get Blink and having had Green Day they did not need 20 bands to come to those. FOB are also not one that have been booked in Europe to headline by anyone other than Reading as co-headliner as far as I can see. They weren't a ooh god yes they've booked FOB.
